I noticed in the last week or so when running my LGB Porter from the value starter set started to have a different sound to it. sort of a winding sound but the engine runs the same. I also noticed the engine gets real hot. So hot i burnt my finger touching it when I took it apart. Gears and everything look good and everything is lubed. Is this a sign of the engine on its way out. (I really hope not) Here is the engine
That load of real logs may be too heavy for it to pull!

I didnt think of that although it does make that same noise when running alone I also noticed it does not make the noise in reverse.
I hate to say this,
but take it apart again and pull the motor.
Connect it to a small transformer/throttle and listen to the motor. (Or does not rotate smoothly when you spin the shaft by hand) If it makes a noise, it’s on it’s way out.
You can get replacements from Train-Li. (maybe).
The over heating is typical of a Buehler (sp) on it’s way out.
…and replace those logs with the plastic or foam ones, those engine were never ment to pull such heavy loads.
my little porter acted a little funny when it came home…after running on the bench (opened up) I found the gear was binding, did a little adjusting, and whammo it runs fine now!

This is probably a good time if you need LGB parts or track. We were at Upland Trains on Wednesday and they had just gotten a shipment from LGB, including parts and track.
