Chuck
Thanks for the nice pics and write up.
I used your idea to make a carrier for my hudson.
I will post a pic soon.
I did keep it just under 48"

But “free” isn’t a bad thing.
I am looking for carriers that can support my K-27s and K-36s. Does anybody have any experience with the aluminum angle based carrier approach used in Steve’s carriers and the large heavy locomotives? My concern is whether or not the plywood ends will be strong enough to prevent the engine weight from spreading the almunimum angles.
Bill, I’m told that it is, but I don’t have first hand information. What I can tell you is that you need 2.5 inch aluminum angle instead of the 2 inch that we used to get proper clearance for those larger locomotives. Your best bet is to send Chuck Inlow a private message with that question, as he very infrequently checks in. The 3/4 inch cabinet grade plywood has 7 plys and no voids, so it is pretty stiff stuff.
Bill,
I carry a K27 in one of Chuck’s carriers without any prollem. And it’s heavy!
This one’ll carry a K-27
This is the one I made for the Hudson.
Works like a charm!
Nice!
That’s odd. I can’t see it.
me neither
John, Bill
I’m building one of these carriers for my C19 and will have it completed in a few days. When I did a bench mockup for my K27 using 2" aluminum angle, it was too narrow using the current design. The cylinders were too wide. It will need 2 1/2" angle pieces to make the current design work. Lowes doesn’t seem to carry anything wider than 2". I guess you could by some thin aluminum bar stock, attach it to the 2" angle and extend the width of the carrier.
John, if you did use the design of the carrier described in this posting, I would likw to see it with a K27 sitting in it.

Free is great, but it isn’t worth a tinker’s damn if the people who are supposed to see it, CAN’T. I have enough web presence with out ANOTHER account somewhere. I used to be able to see anything posted there, not anymore.
Here’s a shot of Sean’s loco I especially like…
Don I am the one who actually built john’s for him and I had to move up to 3 inch aluminum angle for it which is also found at Lowes or home depot. It is one of the only engines in the club that would not fit the other design. It works great you just need to modify the other dimensions to match.

I really like Richard’s.

you can just copy and paste also

Mike,
Thanks for the clarification. Just want to add that when I placed my Connie in the mockup using the 2" angle, there was only about 1/16" clearance on each side. It will be a very tight fit.
Don
Tom i would like to say that is mine but it is not it is Bill Gebhardt he was having a hard time posting the pics.
Richard
Ok. I really like Bills!
