That’s one of the first viral youtubes.

Perhaps you want to model this?
That’s exactly what I want!!!

SUBSTATION UPDATE:
Work continues at a feverish pace on the new substation.
Today, I bring you…
EXHIBIT C: 1 Small Electrical Building (AKA: the building that houses the wire wheel that the giant hamster runs on to create electricity).
But wait… There’s more…
Night shots of exhibit C…
-Kevin.
That’s too cool.
How did you do that?
Bringing it to York?
OK, Kevin… That’s cool…
That’s downright cool!
I like the green around the roof line, nice touch.
John
Oh, that’s great! I didn’t really see the bucket idea till it was done.
Nice. That box has a great art-deco look to it.
Tesla lives!
I love it…wish I had more junk for you than I do …might have to scrounge around a bit more
Wow, now that is what I am talking about. You did a perfect job on that building. Now your wife cant possibly ask for it back. It just looks too darn good in its new role.
Very cool and creative

You just missed it. Goldmine Electronics had a big sale on a load of Van de Graff generators that operated from a low voltage motor to spin the rubber band. They still have the rubber bands, and ther are other places to get the parts if you wanted to make your own.
Won’t be nearly that dramatic as the video (looks fake to me anyways), but any visitors touching it will certainly remember it. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)
Guys- Thanks for all the kind words.

Thanks Bruce!
I made the atomic green glow using the same “low tech Kevin method” that I used for this project:

I don’t know if I’ll have the rest of it done before York (cage structure, transformers, assorted important electrical mumbo jumbo, and most importantly… the glonkulator!!), but I could bring what I have done if you wanna check it out.

Todd- story of my life- always a day late and a dollar short! That Van deGraaff generator would have been a nice touch (total pun intended)!! I don’t think that the rubber band all by itself would be as cool!
-Kevin.
Yes, please bring it to York. It’s always better to see these great creations in person. The camera seldom does them justice.
You could do a “plasma ball.” They are cheap on ebay, can be had in both 5 and 12 volt versions (require 1 amp), and San Val even used to mount them on USA flat cars, with a voltage regulator, to run with the trains.
I saw a 12 volt one at Goodwill for $5, without its wall wart, and keep kicking myself for not getting it.
Always wanted to get one of these, but didn’t want the hassle of trackpower to USB 5v conversion & regulation. With today’ plethora of modern mobile charging battery packs for all our goodies, This just might be a possibility now -
