El Patron Mine - looking for some ideas

Sorta looking for ideas for a mine tipple. The I have two four foot loading tracks and the main and run-around track

(Today we added about two cubic yards more of dirt to the mine area - sorry no photo) I found this one in Utah that looks simple:

Anyone built anything like this?

Bob’s is sort of close.

This is a model of the colliery at Majestic, KY. Built of 1x with lots of corrugated coke cans.

That’s the one.

Not a bad idea, I do have a crimper. how many times did you have to run the cans through to get the right effect?

Just once. Ive modified the fiskar crimper with some aluminum angle to keep the plastic handle from bending, but it does work well.

I carefully put the handles of the crimper in my bench vise to hold constant pressure of the rollers.

Bob, a while back I saw a post that had a crimper that had built by one of our guys. It looked like it would do the job well but I’m not sure what it would cost?

Would this be any help? http://www.the-ashpit.com/mik/pamines.html

Cool photos Mik, Thx !

Paul,

Lawrence Wallace aka Yogi posts on the other site. His web site is here http://users.stratuswave.net/~wd8jik/ and he has a good amount of helpful information on making corrugated siding/roofing for us hobbiests. He is also the person you are thinking of. Follow this link http://www.mylargescale.com/Community/Forums/tabid/56/aff/24/aft/123585/afv/topic/Default.aspx#260255 to the thread on MLS where there is a link to download a PDF of the ‘How To’.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Bob, I met Yogi at a show and he sold me on the crimper!

Today we hauled in one of the last loads of decomposed granite for the mine site. I did play with a coke can and my Fiskers, I think I am going to follow Bob’s example.

Looks like the mountain is there and ready. When will you start adding the shafts ?

Depending how modern you want to go, some mines don’t even use tipples anymore they load straight from giant front end loaders and conveyers.
