El Gato sure likes those G gauge train set boxes!
Forrest,
What a cutey!
We have an orange makerel Maine Coon cat that looks just like him, and he’s into everything!

Thanks!
There’s quite a story behind him - he is literally rescued roadkill.
Was found in the back of a mechanic’s shop alongside a 2-lane country highway.
That was last year about this time.
He was still pretty young - too young to neuter yet.
He was covered in dirt and oil and looked about seconds from giving up and dying.
Took him to vet, got him cleaned up and triaged.
Turned out to have some skin gone from LR leg, crushed LR foot, pelvis broken in 3 places, tail broken in at least one, maybe two.
There was damage to his head and face. Almost all his whiskers had been broken off.
Vet thought LR leg would end up having to be amputated. I said not gonna happen. Found Yahoo group for Handicapped cats and found some physical therapy to do.
Eventually gave up doing PT as he THREW himself into playing like a NFL tackle, and that was perhaps even better.
There’s nerve damage in LR leg, so between that and damage to that foot, he limps and can’t bring that leg forward to scratch his chin.
But, he’s gone from near dead to leaping after paper balls and planes and clearing the floor by at least 15 inches!
He does show sign of hurting with weather changes and all. But so do I, my health is a mess, but in different ways from his. So we snuggle up together and get through the day.
We both like playing with trains:

And I wrote this poem about his life:

What a great story! Glad you were able to save him. Looks like he’s repaying you quite handsomly. Great photos!
Later,
K
He kinda looks like our rescue cat… “Spunkyfinkelstein” is his name I personally call him Kitty?? He has a love hate relationship with my son…Not a cat guy myself and was against it but he (the El gato) has proven himself and has his own personality while obeying the household rules. He has actually been a great pet!

They are funny critters.
Q: Who? Kids or cats?
A: Yes.

Silas Do Good, our black cat with copper eyes, loved my HO slot cars. I had a track set up on a ping pong table He’d gallop madly back and forth in pursuit of the little orange mouse. My baby sister, Karen, always came up with the coolest names for cats.
