I recently stripped down a Bachmann Porter and found it had sound contacts on the axle. A thought occurred to me: get a cheap radio, set it to FM static, and wire the axle contacts in series with the speaker. Instant chuff chuff sound and all for under $5.

Any thoughts?

I think if you looked around someone would donate an old Bachmann sound system. That would be easier and most likely free or close to it. There are some mods for that to make it sound better.
