El Cheapo Groundthrow

I was looking for a sturdy groundthrow to bend the iron on the WCNG. I tried some Oscale throws, which worked good, but lost the battle with the weedeater. After a while I had resorted to just using a U shaped staple to lock the point in the appropriate position. Being essentially cheap, I didn;t want to pay $10 a throw for a professional job, so I continued to search for an alternative. I found this throw in Mal Ferrel’s “Westide Pictorial”

The West Side used these, they are really neat looking, and simple to make. This one I made up from scrap brass that I had and a fishing weight that I bought .99 cents for a baker’s dozen.

Yeah it looks a little rough, but I figger my technique will improve with time, and once all that shiney brass weathers in it shold blend right in!
