"Edward Roberts" reports for duty on the Tuscarora Railroad

Filling a need for additional motive power, the Tuscarora Railroad has acquired the use of East Broad Top #1, the “Edward Roberts.”

“Edward Roberts” was the East Broad Top’s first locomotive, built in 1873 for the Cairo & St. Louis, but never delivered. It served in myriad capacities over its life, from freight, passenger, local switcher, and lastly pulling the president’s business car, before it was sold to the Tuscarora Valley Railroad in 1913. The model depicts the loco as she likely appeared in 1911. It’s based on an LGB mogul chassis, and uses a Delton C-16 boiler and smokebox, Bachmann cab, and other bits from this loco or that, in addition to various scratchbuilt parts. It did a pretty good job of cleaning out my scrap parts box. A full account of its construction and more finished photos can be found here: http://www.mylargescale.com/Community/Forums/tabid/56/forumid/8/tpage/1/view/Topic/postid/76195/Default.aspx Construction photos on page 1, finished photos on page 2. Very nice!

You sure had to collect a lot of parts for that one. It doesn’t look olive green, though…

Well done.

By all accounts I’ve heard, Baldwin’s “olive green” was much like the Pennsy’s “Brunswick green” in that it was a very dark shade of green that was often mistaken for black in all but the brightest light. The interesting thing is that I run two monitors on my computer, both–in theory–“calibrated.” On the right monitor, the paint is green. On the left, it’s black. Guess I got it right???

Nice loco. I almost thought “Edward Roberts” might be a new addition to the family.

WoW!

The photos of the work you gents build is impressive, to say the least. It encourages me to look more closely at the fine details of my own work.-

More great work, Kevin. I love the paint and weathering you do on your locos. Just enough to make them look run, but well cared for.

Man that looks good. I’m going back to reread your building article again.

Very nice, Kevin. I agree with Bob, you sure have mastered the look of clean, but used.

Kevin: another great looking engine. I wish I had your talent. Cant wait to see the video of it running.

Wow, That’s quite a hybrid  Looks really great, nice job.

WOW, that looks nice!

Beautiful! Nice work as always, Kevin, and I agree with Bob about your weathering skill. I’ve just finished lettering my new loco and replacing the coal load with an oil bunker, and I’m still debating how – and how much – to weather it.

That is so right on several levels , I really would like to see it photo modified into a real period correct photo scene , it would really be even more of a knock out . Fantastic modeling .
