Going to the basement searching for my Y2K emergency set of balls

I Talked to Star Hobby today. There will not be a Show Car this year. The t shirt will “have tracks running through it, it’s really neat!”

I might get more info on the shirt, the Greenberg Show is local tomorrow.

Just an observation from afar…

For a train show that is only a week away; there is hardly any chatter on this subject for over a week.

I would have thought that the “Replacement Alcove” would be a big topic, along with a floor plan of the show place, possibly a dealer/manufacturer/ displayers’ list. WHERE WILL THE DRAG & BRAG BE HELD ?

Surely Star Hobbies would want to promote the show, on this web page…or are they keeping so secret that they won’t say a word, even for free here at LSC.

This whole escapade, I’m sorry to say, gives the impression of a WAKE, with few attending.

Please, someone…BRING US UP TO DATE…I’m limited to what I see on this thread, and am unable to attend the show, or meet my friends there, so I’m at your mercy. There must be others who care, and are in the same position as I am.

Fred Mills

Fred,

Until I’m told otherwise, the D&B will be in the Embassy Suites bar. And yes, it’s been tougher this year to set anything up. But those of us who are there will scope things out as best we can, to prepare for a more normal D&B next year. And whatever happens this year, we’ll be sure to post about it.

It MIGHT even appear that the show has gone downhill since Fred last attended…

Well, I’ve decided that I’m going to take a pass this year and let those closer to the epicenter take stock so hopefully things will be more settled next year, assuming there will be a next year. I hope everyone enjoys themselves and take heart that this grumpy old man won’t be there !

Am I right in understanding that the new location is about 40 miles from the original location?

Greg

Closer to 50 miles. Right down I-83.

Well, I’m not feeling well and a) Don’t want to spread this to anyone b) Don’t want to catch anything else while my resistance is down.

Regretfully I cancelled our room, and will miss my first show in over 10 years.

Bummer!(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

Sorry to hear that Lou!

Drag and Brag = 2 guys sitting at a bar and start talking about beer, their trains, people they mutually know on and off the Interne, their layouts and how they like to run/operate them. That’s how it started and that’s how it can continue.

.

We are still in Florida. The Ridge Live Steamers March Car Card / Waybill Operations is the same weekend as the ECLSTS. Hope all that attend have a great time and get great bargains. If you feel sick, stay home like Lou. Wise move Lou, I think you are making the right decision.

.

For those attending - the words of Fred and Rooster “are there any pictures, yet?” Whatever, enjoy! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

.

Take care of yourself Lou. They’ll be other train shows.

Clearly the most important thing for us LSC guys is the drag and brag. The show itself - been there, done that. Best wishes and good luck to the organizers and all that, but the SOCIAL aspect is what actually counts. We have our annual operating sessions hosted by various great people. Great, but focused on operations, as they should be. Maybe there’s a guy here who could host a swap meet/drag and brag/bull session. No planned ops, but a simple test track would be more than we usually had at York, and any one of us could probably drag one along. I even have a folding table or two, so though I may be at the fringe here in Toronto, I can help make it easier. I can bring two portable square gazebos to help create an alcove. Your job would be to set a date, locate accommodations for one night and a diner for after. Our job would be to pack and go! Just set the date and we’ll make the drive! Johnnychuffchuff wants to come too.

Cheers!

So are you going John? Or is the change from York making to too far? From your post, it seems that you used to go to York.

Echoing Greg, are you going this year John?

Not a lot of us can attend this year, due to one thing and another. But for we who can, we’ll give it our best shot, support Star Hobby, and hopefully find some clues on doing the Alcove and D&B next year.

About your suggestion, I’m thinking along the same lines. Whether or not ECLSTS survives over the long haul (which I sure hope it does), I’d expect some of us might consider a supplemental or (if needed) replacement meet. In fact, Bruce (on 2/20) mentioned a good candidate, KOPS, which is soon after ECLSTS, and not that far from it.

I just heard from John…his health is not too good at this time, with a hospital visit a few days ago. I very much doubt that he will get to Baltimore this year…

Stu Moxley might get to the show, as he is visiting his girl friend down there…his main reason for being in the area.

I don’t know of anyone else from this (Ottawa/Montreal/Toronto) area, planning on attending.

One possible site for a “Drag/Brag/Social Party” (LSC DBSP) might be at “The Finger Lakes Live Steamers” where they offer a #1 Gauge layout, along with their Ride On equipment, and track. They have a camping area, and club house/dining area, along with Ric Golding as a registered member, and several of us as associate members. The Finger Lakes area of Upper New York State, is a great area for visiting; away from the crowds and density of the area around Washington. Those that haven’t been there, should try it. They just might fall in love with it.

The whole FLLS club and its members are a VERY Great bunch of people. (They even put up with me !!!)

Finger lakes might seem a bit far North for some, but heck, Baltimore, and York are a bit far South for others.
