EBT

Anyone out there with knowledge about the EBT know anything about this?

I hope it’s just rumor…:frowning: Though I would think if it were true they would have made the fact public by now.

I heerd that since the old man died, the boys were wanting to get out from under it.

I can’t remember where I heard that, or even if what I remember is what I remember, but that is what I remember.

Of all the things I’ve lost, I miss my mind the most…

While nothing is ever 100% certain with that railroad, they do have two tour bus groups already on the books for the 2008 season. I personally wouldn’t put a lot of stock into that rumor. It–or similarly vague and unattributable rumors seem to surface every few years in connection to the railroad. I’ve been there for at least three supposedly “final” Fall Spectaculars.

The "old man" would be Nick Kovalchick, who died quite a while ago. His son Joe's been at the helm for as long as I can remember, and is as passionate about the railroad as anyone could be. If he were ever looking to "get out from under it," there have been offers tendered in the past which he's steadfastly refused. Joe's son Nathan takes a fairly active role at least at the Fall Specatculars, though I don't know how active he is at other times of the year.

It will be claimed (and other tourist lines) by a combination of the guvmint safety gurus, the insurance companies and the ambulance chaser’s—sooner or later!

I’m going to try to take the girls out yet this year… just in case. If everybody who claims to care would buy simply a ticket, even if they can’t get out to ride, I wonder how much sales that would generate? (Tickets are only $12-15, not like that would break anybody’s bank) http://ebtrr.com

Well, so much for that rumor… :stuck_out_tongue:

Truth is, the railroad hasn’t “officially” announced it will be running next year, but that’s nothing new. They generally don’t make that announcement until near the end of the current year or after they shut down for the season. According to a friend in the local media out there, though, there’s been absolutely zero buzz about the possibility that it wouldn’t be running next year. There’s been absolutely nothing going around in FEBT circles that I’ve heard relative to that, so either it’s a non-issue or there’s a ton of stuff going on that no one is telling me. Given the work that the FEBT is doing to create new passenger equipment for next year, though–at the behest of the EBT management–I’d tend to believe they have every intention of making sure trains continue to run.

You really don’t apperciate how much you have living in south central PA until you read posts like this. Perhaps as a local you take things like this for granite? 2 1/2 hrs to horseshoe curve/EBT R.R, 15min’s to Rockville bridge/Enola Yard, 30 min to Strausburg, 1hr steamtown Scranton/Wilkes Barre, etc. Doing the Gettysburg RR 5hr excursion tour with the family to Mt. Holly in a few weeks.(old WM line) Pretty excited about that. York Expo 20mins. and much more!!
I’m pretty blessed on that end I must say!
