EBT visit

OK,
I guess I never did finish up with the pictures I took that day as Hollywood was taking a bunch and besides it wasn’t my job. My whole thought was if we got into bad territory all I had to say was " I’m just the driver but he’s the spy".

No particular order and this is all I got on that particular field trip. Another good adventure with Hollywood and Rooster. Maybe we should go back to Cornwall sometime soon just to confuse Bill. Oh and we could hook up with Sean as he’s got kin from them there parts.

Thanks for the ride along Hollywood !

Yep,
Just Timber Rattlers and Northern Copperheads nothing too nasty as long as you don’t poke at them with a stick.

Then there is the very common Eastern Milk Snake (non venomous) and not to be confused with the Eastern Milkshake as that’s closer to the New York, New Jersey border

Is this Eastern Milkshake, Chocolate, Vanilla, or Strawberry?

Hollywood, and made with buttermilk to give it a serious bite?

So, go Pogue!

Seems like the siding there might be easily relayed. Well, comparatively.

I think that might be the plan. Running South to Pougue Station sometime late next year would extend the ride by 15-30 minutes. The ability to run around the train would make the return North to Rockhill Furnace simpler.

In a few years when they reach Saltillo, there is a wye and the station will be rebuilt beginning next spring.

Then in a few more years they will have their shops making the EBT P-811. It’s in the area currently if they want to get spy pics.

Last year but now you met the boys father this year.

Great news released over the weekend…

POGUE, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program has awarded the EBT Foundation $1.6 million to restore two steel bridges on a portion of the narrow gauge East Broad Top tourist railroad’s dormant main line.

A major boost for the EBT, a national historic landmark, the grant will aid the line in its push to expand operations toward the mountainous mining area that supplied the line with millions of tons of semi-bituminous coal from its opening in 1874 to its closure as a common carrier in 1956.

The major structure to be rehabilitated is Pogue trestle, a 275-foot-long 1904 steel Warren truss bridge over Aughwick Creek. As the largest bridge on EBT’s original 33-mile-long main line, it stands 3 miles south of EBT’s operating headquarters at Rockhill Furnace.

The funds will also cover rehab of the plate girder bridge a little further South and additional clearing and grading.

BTW - Restored track has crossed McCoy Rd. and as now less than a mile from Pogue Trestle.

They’d better get on with the rehab! The track will be there by Christmas.

I believe the trestle is actually sound from an engineering perspective. Probably just needs a coat of paint and some re-pointing on the stones. And some ties to hold the rails!

The article in Trains said that the steel work is good to go. The rehab will include reinforcing the stone piers and adding protection from flood debris as well as bridge ties across the span.

The foundation has previously announced that the work would be done by a contractor. It will likely include placing the rail as well so the paid and volunteer crew don’t need to work in such dangerous conditions. It was also announced that work on the trestle and also the exterior structure of Saltillo Station was going out to bid this fall. If the weather holds, we might actually see some progress this winter!

As I look into my crystal ball I for see a future for you in Three Springs. Then eventually you could move to Orbisonia.
