EBT Flat Car

In the fresh issue of the Gazette, there is an ad saying Accucraft now has an EBT Flat Car. The way I look at ads, it could have been there for the last year, but I just noticed it in this issue. Does anybody know of a review of this car? Please excuse my inquiry, if this is extremely well known and a well discussed subject, but also please point me toward that subject.

Ric, if it's any consolation, I look at all the adds in the Gazzette and that was the first time I saw it, too.

Thanks Ken. It’s also on their website. They are listing 4 numbers. Has anyone seen reviews of the flat car in any road names? Probably D&RGW, if nothing else. Any one have AMS Flatcars? Pros and Cons?

Sounds like vapor ware to me. …bet we don;t SEE one til next year!

Hmm…interesting. If its true, it could be the basis for a steel boxcar, too. Hrm…

Ric,

I found a post on the other site about AMS making EBT cars I am emailing it to you. Pete Thornton says he saw one at the ECLSTS and talked to AMS when they will producing it.

I hope this is helpful.

Don;t get excited guys.,look on page 12 of the latest Gazette. AMS isn;t doing the steel EBT cars…rather its a generic wood car with trussrods…

Sorry, it’s merely a repaint of their existing wood flat car. I wish it were more of a harbinger of things to come, and one can always hope. Still, it’s nice to see the letters “EBT” painted on the side of a commercial model, even if it’s only 80% accurate. I don’t think the EBT had any two wood flat cars that were identical to each other, so who’s to say this one isn’t really close to one of them?

Hopefully Bachmann’s steel hoppers will convince Accucraft to get their act together and produce a steel box car. Hopefully Bachmann’s steel hoppers will convince ANYONE to produce an EBT mikado!

Later,

K

I guess HOPE is really a 4 letter word. I agree that the more we see EBT on commercial products, the more they will have an inclination to make more. Please be sure to buy your share to support the cause. So does anyone have the DRGW flatcars? Are they heavy enough to stay on the track? Good detail? Modification to the trucks to stop the “toe in” binding of the first runs? Thank you, in advance, for your responses.

Now is the time where Accucraft is using the same molds and just lettering EBT or any other road name to find more buyers. Of course there is not really anything wrong with that as it makes good business sense to get the most mileage out of their investments. I think they have done pretty good with putting out a lot of interesting train stuff. Look at all the engines, live steam and electric plus loads of freight cars.

Cheers,

Looking in to the future, I think I’m seeing my name on all 4 different number schemes. Damn, I’m going to have to start sellling something or build more trackage. Oh, the pressure of this job.

Ric: The AMS flat car is a great value, maybe the best in the AMS line. They all have the truck sideframe mod now. A pair of these trucks by them selves will cost about 45.00. Metal sideframes, steel wheels etc. The flat regularly sells most places for about 55.00. 10.00 more than trucks for couplers (5.00 pr) and a complete car…At the BTS( rusty boat show this week) I will have a special on them. In case lots (4)they get even lower.
Detail is quite top level. Full brake rigging and truss rods detail. Cut levers, accurate couplers, fine flanges on the wheels, and so on. The only area that AMS messed up on (minor) is that the wood deck is painted, where the cars are supposed to be natural wood . However, there is even an easy fix for that too.( contact me off list).
Due to the metal trucks and wheels, they track fine. I have even pushed on them with a R/c Loco from behind without incident.
