EBT Boxcar Build-along thread

Oops. Reached the end of instructions! Well, almost. There are some more on page 9, but no pictures yet. I’ll wait.

The only feedback on this last bit is that when you are done measuring out the 4’7" scale lines, you should have 5’6" in the middle. It’s really just a check to make sure you measured correctly. (And I only say that because I didn’t the first time. )

Here’s some evidence of progress…

Good point on the 5’6" (the door width). Ill add that too.

I have to send out some roof peak support pieces to everyone. I need to head to Staples and get some heavy duty envelopes. Sorry gang, Ive been pretty busy lately.

OK Gang, next installment is up. We get the roof on, which encloses the box.

I need to mail out the mid-peak pieces to people, or, if you want me to deliver them at York, let me know and I’ll hang on to them until then.

Now for the roof battens and roofwalk.

Roof battens and roofwalk instructions are ready.

Wow, pretty snazzy. I guess I’ll try the belt sander on those supports…they look nice.

I’m planning on using wood for the roofwalks, so I’ll be putting them on after I paint. Should I ever get that far…

Next installment (or half-installment) is up. This details the early style doors, hangers, and brackets. I’ll do the late-style doors a bit later, but I want to get the instructions mostly finished first.

Instructions for installing the fascia boards on the carsides is up.

Next we move on to the car end details, then grab irons. We’re almost done!

Well, making some progress. Got the other 5 caught up to my first one. Just about ready to put the roofs on…

Holy Cow! I better not bugger up the directions, or Bruce’ll have my head!

I’m sitting here twiddling my thumbs. All my plastic ordered from Hobbylinc is on backorder. They don’t have the I beams in stock…:frowning:

Looks like Bruce bought and used it all :)

Nice looking stack of cars Bruce. Have you seen the hopper side Bob was showing us in York?

JR

Hi folks
The next installment is ready. We’re finishing up, starting with the details on the car ends. So grab your 040 brass rod, your drill bits, and get to it!

Note: There is an error in the photos for this piece. I mistakenly made the single grab a ‘stepped’ grab, when it should be a straight grab. The other 4 on the left side of the end ARE ‘stepped’ grabs. The text of the article is correct, but the photos are not. I will change the photos when I build the next car.

You guys need to order earlier! I wonder how they decide what to stock? Ooh…a big demand for I-beams - we better order lots!

Bob - the update looks good. I think I’ll wait to do the doors until I see the other style.

You need to put in a page on your tool for bending the grab irons.

Bruce: Once I get the grabs done, Ill quickly build another one to show the other door style. I’m trying to finish up the grabs today or tomorrow, then its trucks and couplers, underbody (if you so desire) and paint!

Next page is up, this deals with the grab irons on the car sides. A couple more details, and we’re on to trucks and couplers.

Ive added strap steps and the door grab details to the Car Sides page.

Next page is up, this time dealing with the brake platform and hardware.

Another installment, this one gets the trucks under it.

Got all the roof pieces in place and started work on the shorter battens. These cars really get sturdy with the roof glued on.
