Simmering in the barn
I doubt she’s simmering. Millie has been cold for a long, long time
Nice photo . . . but I don’t see any “simmering” either.
All y’all have no imagination.

We were there when she “blew her pipes”. Twas a sad day.
I can say that this nice picture is either A) Quite Old or B) Staged. Reason being that the number plate is on the smoke box door. The railroad takes no chances of theft or vandalism to out-of service locos. Whistles, number plates, and other easy to remove “collectibles” are stored safely away from the roundhouse. They may also do this to the in service loco(s) during the winter break.
I think the probable answer is A since there isn’t any clutter around the back wall.
BTW - This year the railroad is rotating whistles from out-of-service locos to the in-service #15. This month she is wearing the whistle from (I think) #17.

Thats outta one of the books I think…notice most of the nuts are missing that holf the smokebox front on…prolly after an overhaul in revenue years…
Definitely tourist era - White tires on #12 and American flags on the next loco in line which might be #17 based on the grab rails curving down over the smoke box.

As the photographer, I would like to note that this unedited and unaltered B&W shot was taken this past Saturday (July 10, 2010) in the Orbisonia roundhouse. It was not staged, and was taken during the regularly scheduled roundhouse tour at about 1:00 PM. The locomotive behind #12 is in fact #17. Sorry guys, didn’t mean to step on anyone’s toes, but I wanted to step in to correct any incorrect assumptions that were being made. I purposely drove to the EBT this past weekend (715 mile round trip in 51 hours) to get a shot that looked like it was “out of the books,” so the fact that it was mistaken for one means that I have accomplished my goal! For the record, #12, #14, #15 (operational), and #17 all have their number plates intact. #16 and #18 did not:

Thank you, Rudy. It is a lovely photo!
And for proving I’m not as dumb as I look, lol
Very nice photos, Rudy.
Thank you for filling us in on the details.
Ralph

"Mechanic for the Morristown & Erie Railroad " Where abouts are you from? There’s a portion of the M&E that runs by here…(at least, that used to be the name)

I work in the shop in Morristown, NJ. That locomotive is actually just down the tracks from the shop now, and is going to be a parts unit:

Ahhhhhhh…a breath of fresh air! Alcos rule
Looks like shes got a no longer used Material Handling car in tow 1546 maybe?
Kinda wondered what happened to it. There’s a black one running up and down the tracks the last couple times I happened to catch seeing it.
