Ebay is weird

Ebay is weird or at least the buyers are. I have been watching a pair of identical bachmann wood hopper cars which are over today. The cars are exactly the same from the same seller, and from what I can tell the only difference is one is missing the brake wheel.

With brake wheel. Current price of $31

Is a brake wheel really worth $12.50 ??

I bought one of these last week lettered for the Penn. RR and paid $22 total with the shipping.

It will be interesting to see how much these will finish at later today.

Hey Todd it just depends on what someone is willing to pay. I’ve seen alot worse through the years. One of the guys in our club just bought a Bachmann 2-8-0 Consolidation brand new in the box for 200.00 “Buy It Now” justify that.

Ebay is weird those 2 cars each had 15 bids on them one went for $51 and the other $71 WOW maybe I should sell the ones I have?

I do like that buy it now pricing. Yesterday I just missed 6 pieces of LGB 16000 for $14 bucks.

3 days ago a guy listed some track and 7 aristo wide radius switches with a very good BIN price.

I snatched them up and went to pay adn he asked me how many did I want and I said all of them since no where in the listings did it say the price was per piece. Instead it read something like “2 brand new aristo wide switches…” He said he made a big mistake in listing them like that but would sell me the 7 at the BIN price. I felt bad for the guy and after sleeping on it I offered him a deal , sell me 4 for the price of 3 and all will be good. He agreed.

Ebay is weird with the high / low prices and you never know what you will find on there but that is part of the fun is it not?

Sometimes its buyer beware, other times its seller beware, but its always wallet beware :smiley:

Just like the PA Logging books I have been buying. I got most of them for just under $20 but I have seen the same book in the same condition seling for over $100.

I bought just about everything I need over 5 years ago and I’m glad my shopping is pretty much all done now.

Oh, and I paid too much. With shipping to Canada, the border taxes, and adding metal wheels I bet most of my Bachmann freight car fleet cost me at least $60 apiece. Figure 25-30 for the car, 20 for the wheels, at least 15 for shipping, then there are 12-13% (?) border taxes…At the time it really didn’t seem that I had any choice. I wanted to add all those metal wheels. Nowadays I think the B’man puts the wheels on; a little late IMHO… :frowning:

Screwed again! Yup, I’m glad that’s over with now.

I can hardly believe the deals you’re able to get sometimes nowadays, but also I can hardly believe how much you have to pay for some other items. Pricing is weird, all over the map, that’s for sure, and not just on E-bay…

Todd, that seller just coincidentally happens to be the guy who sells my ebay stuff for me, and I can tell you he was pleasantly surprised by both prices, especially the $71!

You never know what you’ll get for something on ebay.
