When we visited Ric’s in November, Andre had a bunch of old tubes. I took a couple figuring I might be able to use them someday. I think that they were the leftover pieces from cash register tapes, or something like that. At any rate, I’ve been wanting to build some decent smokestacks. I always like to have some ventilation in all my buildings to cut down on condensation. The problem is how to cover the stacks. When I was in Wal-Mart the other day, I saw some chair glides; I looked at them and thought those could be just the right diameter for a smokestack top! I bought a set of four and took them home. They come with a center nail to stick in the chair and I cut that off. Next, I drilled some holes and added four brass pins to the glide. I turned this over and glued it on to the cylinder. Painted it black. Yep, this works.
Great use of stuff I was going to throw away! Glad they were useable by someone. Dontcha wish you’d grabbed more of those?
Hmm…can we get a close-up of them? Thats a neat idea…
Don’t buy any more glides. I’ve got hundreds, maybe even thousands of them

I think they are about 3/4 to 1 inch. Small nail molded in. Leftovers at work from a furniture job - I’ll dig them out tomorrow and bring some back to measure.
I’m undecided on York. Money will be tight by then unless I can squirrel away some of the tax refund.
These are 1" in diameter.
I braved the wind to take this picture.

Good grief. Nothing like a close up photo to really show flaws! Good thing I don’t normally get this close. Here’s what the glides look like before being smoked.

Cool. I think I actually have one of those tubes here.
Hey guys - Finally got a picture taken of what I have.

FF: Click to Enlarge - IE: Right Click Photo and select Open Link in New Window to Enlarge I’ve got a box of over 1000 of these at work that we will never use. If anyone wants, I’ll supply for cost of postage.
I don’t suppose you’re going to York this year by any chance?
Haven’t made that decision yet. Finances aren’t looking too good now, but that may change.
Turns out I will be in York on Friday. I have a box of several hundred, maybe a thousand of these in my car.

Anyone who would like some, bring a suitable container and you may have some for free.
How tacky…
Later,

Old pill bottles, especially the ones you get samples in, make great air conditioners when painted silver or gray, or even black. I’m making a flat roofed building today, perhaps I can get some pics today or tomorrow.
