Easing the grade on Coal Dump Curve

Trying like crazy to catch up on LSC, since I finally got through all the email. Jon, you have made some great progress and some good looking improvements. Thanks for sharing the pictures.
No problem! Thanks for suggesting Quest for Rock. If it ever cools off I may just finish the last 3 feet.

Having goals and objectives while enjoying recreation kind of justifies the beverages it takes to cool down. Works better than just spending the day sitting on the deck sucking the suds without purpose. Although there is merit to that. More satisfying or something like that. Today, a nap is in the plans. Hope to start about 1330 or so.

The work was completed on Saturday and final dress-up of the gardens and ballast completed Sunday. I had plans to take pictures, but the video project killed all the daylight on Sunday. Rainy today and probably tomorrow. I’ll get finished project pictures up as soon as the weather cooperates.

With these photos I declare this project finished. Less than a month to do it and under budget    Long shot from the back yard…

On the back outside of the curve I used the scrap concrete salvaged from the previous version. This area is rarely seen…

My next project - seeing if I can dig this BFR out of the ground. I tripped over this at least a dozen times while working on the new grade…

Paint it orange…save your back…

Jon the improvement came nice. Paint roosters face on the BFR.

Ware a deer hunters jumpsuit and go to Hollywoods for a picture session …Orange caboose

I used to work with explosives. I could arrange a removal, however I cant guarantee that the rest of the area will be in the same place it was before I started…

Jake - Thanks but no thanks. I don’t think those dry stack rocks would survive an M-80 blast !

Too bad the old excavator I used in Tennessee is dead. He shot rock out for the foundation of my house there. When the shot went off, there was a ‘thumpf’, a little ground shake and rubble. I have no doubt in my mind he could have done that rock Jon.

I’ll do some investigative digging when it’s cooler. If I can’t get it out, maybe I’ll bring the ground up 6 inches in that spot.

Yeah I could blast basements with no flyrock, but what fun would that be???

A few weeks ago I made some improvements. Just got around to the photos today. I didn’t like the concrete scraps I used on the outside of the curve, so I replaced them where visible from inside the curve and above with rock. Over-head view…

The outside of the curve is seldom seen, so I left the concrete blocks to support the rock…

Some moss was stuffed into a few of the crevices…

With careful composition I can just about eliminate the real world…
