Some news on coloring #1900
Roof & lower part of the pilots using light black to reduce the contrast to the bright red - there are several areas to be corrected due to overspray…

A few days ago I made the decision to start with CB&Q’s #9908 ‘Silver Charger’.
As the basic housing I use the shell of an USA-Trains streamliner (an AMTRAK Budd-style diner) - a rather difficult decision because these cars a hard to become over here in Europe. Anyway my affection for the fulted stainless beauties is bigger than my concerns sacrficing such a car.
As usual the basic construction looks rather crude & ugly…let’s hope it finally will resemble the prototype.
A mock-up with a 3-axle passenger truck as a stand-in for the Blomberg-like front truck

Did you cut out the fluted roof area that got covered or did you leave it in place and work around it?

I kept the fluted roof area underneath the new roof as a stabilizing structure - especially keeping in mind that there is a significant part with see-through louvers.
At least the bevelled end of the raised roof was countersunk into a cut of the roof’s fluting.

Random tangential thought: it would be fun to see some of these in “What If” liveries like aircraft modelers have a forum for.
For instance, UP M-10,000 in Rock Island Rocket paint, or NYC lightning stripe. That Ingalls job in Milwaukee Hiawatha paint with the big chrome piece on front like some Fairbanks locos had. A McKeen in Pere Marquette with yellow bow wave and silver band with pinstripes. Peoria and Pekin Union 200 in New Haven McGinnis paint, all curves loco in all straight lines pattern. Those are great looking diesels Norman and nicely modeled.
Amazing on the Charger. I like my 1:32 Z, but making one in 1:29 really blows my mind! You are quite creative in how you do things. How will you duplicate the stainless look? Plan to do the other cars?
