I agree Ron. I've been using paypal for some years without a problem both as a buyer and a seller. With their atm card I can use the buyers payment to ship the Item on the same day. I think it is great. Alot of other people I deal with on line now accept paypal which means I am not transmitting my credit card number. All good. So John quit complaining and just do it. LOL
Cut and pasted right from ebay.
"Checks and money orders no longer allowed
What’s changing with payments on eBay?
Beginning October 20 2008, checks and money orders will no longer be allowed as payment methods on eBay. All items appearing on eBay.com must be paid for using either:
* PayPal (funded by PayPal account balance, credit card, debit card, bank account, PayPal Pay Later, PayPal Buyer Credit or eBay gift certificate)
* Credit or debit card payment to a seller (through a seller's Internet merchant account)
* ProPay
* Payment upon pickup
In January 2009, all of the approved electronic payment methods will be integrated into eBay checkout. For example, if a seller offers credit or debit card as a payment option, buyers will be able to directly enter their credit card information securely in eBay checkout and their payment will be directly routed to the seller’s Internet merchant account.
We are also working with other electronic payment providers currently included in our Accepted Payments Policy to integrate their services into eBay checkout in 2009. "
I can read John, I guess you just don’t understand what I’m telling you! It works for me, I have a pay pal acct. too, sometimes I choose to use m.o. or cashiers check, but you do what ever works for you. The Regal Been workin for me the last few weeks, when it doesn’t anymore I’ll use paypal i guess. The whole point is so Pay Pal which is also Ebay doesn’t get circumvented on any of their fees!! On both ends when you list and when you sell and receive payment they want they’re fees!!!
E-bay gets a fee for handling the item. Pay Pal gets a fee for handling the payment. If both companies are owned by the same person or corporation that is what business is all about. It only gets sticky if E-bay makes you use Pay Pal as a condition of purchase. Then you have to factor that into the cost of the item you are purchasing on E-bay. I guess I don’t see a problem with the system. What is needed is competition for E-bay so they will be forced to not make using Pay Pal the only method of payment. Then it is up to the buyer/ seller to decide where he will buy/sell and what method of payment he will use/accept.

Jerry, That no longer works. The Evilbay computers track the entire transaction. That is why my bookseller is pissed. All listings, except automotive, real estate, and a few big ticket items, go directly thru Paypal. If he or any other seller lists an item, it is tracked all the way to see if the buyer used paypal. That is why I can't buy the book thru e-bay. They got you by the Kahunas.OK,
Yesterday, all I did was look around the paypal section of Evilbay. I did not link out of their site at all.
This morning, I had two spam emails concerning Paypal.
You tell me that no one is trying to hack the Ebay pay pal site?
They prolly have banks of computers set up in some sleazy warehouse, trying 24 hours a day to hack your pay pal account.
Safe huh?Let’s hope I don’t have to say, “I told you so” in the near future.
The spam came from your Ebay info and not from paypal. They are both owned by the same corp. ebay has been sending info about paypal to those that they know do not have a account in order to get you to sign up. I know this because some other friends do not have paypal accounts and they have been getting spam mail for them to sign up as well.
Geoff,
the PayPal spam is more phishing emails to entice buyers to reveal (suposedly update) their personal details. The last phishing email (confirmed to me by [email protected]) was only minutes after making my last PayPal payment. I receive phishing emails as a buyer and not as a seller. Privacy concerns on eBay lead to bidders’ personal info being coded, therefore eBay is not the source of the info for the phishers. They have some link with PayPal’s payment information to gain access to buyer’s email addresses.
I received two USPS postal money orders today that came from two items I had on eBay last week so something is not kosher eh? I’ll of course cash them Monday morning prior to shipping the items. Hey it works for me. Phooey on Pay Pal… Screw em I say !
Yea the old fardt in Ore-Gun
Yes, it’s true, well maybe? Heard the Fed’s might get after Pay Pal as they are acting like a bank. Credit cards, debit cards etc might be the key to their down fall trying to monopolize payments.
Geoff,
Not this time.
They were actual Phishing spams like Tim said.
Never had any until I looked around the E-bay Pay Pal site.
Perhaps it’s an “insider” E-bay Geek.
Could happen.
John Bouck said:I once had my cc account information stolen and used. It was an inside job, as the only place I had used the card in 18 months was one of the big internet computer parts dealers. You know, the one with the funny name that has more to do with breakfast than computers. Ralph

I stopped using evil bay after the third phishing expedition. Each time I forwarded the phish to evil bay and to pay pal and never heard back from either. I know I miss out on good deals, but I’m just surly that way.
I agree. Everyone on this forum should stop buying G scale on ebay… you’re ruining all my good deals. Ebay marketing tells you bid, bid, and bid again, to win at any cost. I prefer to pay starting bids with no competition
Here here now!!! we’ll have none of that, I wholeheartedly agree with you Paul, It would make it so much simpler for you and me huh??? LOL The Regal
It’s really getting hard to find a good deal on ebay. I see locos listed there all the time at higher prices than you can get from the major online dealers.
Ray,
simple explanation would be that although online dealers advertise low prices, quite likely they have no stock to sell, or only had a very limited number to start with which sold out imediately. One still sees eBay sellers listing items at full retail price, so some must be able to entice buyers.
I noticed that one eBay seller is dropping his prices on the new B'mann mallett. We all are aware that it is in short supply, so one wonders why the street price keeps dropping.
Hard to find a good deal on anything new, particularly locos. I only buy a used one if its really cheap. They rarely run well, if at all. That said, I have a shelf full of fix up locos for future projects that I will never get to.
Ebay is best for finding the used odds and ends to fill out your layout, or that special set that was discontinued years ago.
Monday I received the two books from 2 different sellers on ebay …which I had sent postal money orders for payment . NO paypal here for me .
And the 1945 book of , 1917 timetables for electric interurban railways for mid America , is in mint condition .
I did contact the sellers and ask if money order payment was ok , before I bid , everything up front , works for me .
Most things sell well above retail, it seems.
True, most are “listed” above retail, and some even sell above retail. I have got some killer deals on ebay. Just picked up a 30 and 90 degree crossing for less than $20.00 (BIN), that was for both, including shipping!
Then again I’m not sure I want to say what I paid for the “Polar Bear” box car, cheapest I’ve seen but still a tad more than I liked!
I noticed today most of the items now on mega-clearance at Trainwold have taken a similar drop on ebay…strange they are only $10 over what TW charges! I will never understand how someone can be smart enough to find an item on ebay but not smart enough to do a web search for the same item from an established retailer.
PayPal is owned by Ebay. They get a cut off of every PayPal transaction as well as a listing fee AND a percentage of the total sale. If you pay by some other means they don’t get their cut like they do with Paypal. It’s all about the money. I have bought & sold on Ebay for 5 years. I have gotten screwed 4 or 5 times by sellers. I have NEVER been reinbursed by Ebay or PayPal for anything. The idea that you are protected is BLL SIT!. Ebay makes it’s money off of the sellers not the buyers. t
They have no interest in protecting the buyers since it doesn"t make money for them to do so. If they catch a seller accepting payment other than Paypal your out.
