No other bids in between.
What gives?
Shill bumping the bids up?
I see this a lot in my auctions. There probably was a reserve price and that guy was trying to get over the reserve.
Of course, you could also just e-mail the seller and ask what the ‘reserve’ is… If they wont tell you, its likely artifically too high in the 1st place.

Oh yeah, now I get it. That would be too logical!

Not logical simply CHEAPER. Ebay charges you listing fees based on the starting price. The lower your price the cheaper to list. Adding a reserve is simply a small fee on top of the lsiting price and is usually cheaper than starting the auction at the price you want minimum anyway. I’m not 100 percent sure on that anymore however as it’s been a while since I’ve sold anything.
Also, A “Buy it Now” will still appear until the reserve price is met.
Paul
What gets me is the starting price or reserve is usually only $10 less than the “buy it now” price.
…Or exactly the same.
HJ,
in their wisdom, countries like Australia, are not offered the luxury of a reserve price on their listings. EBay determined, using their own statistics, that there is a 17% greater chance of a sale if no reserve price is applied to the listing. Of course, if this were true, would not eBay reap greater revenue from sales, if it applied the no reserve rule to the American continent, its biggest market, or are eBay statistics simply rubbish (or are the American public not so gullible?).
As a seller in Australia, whenever I list an item, my start list price is generally as high as one is able to buy an item online at the many American hobby discounters. The no reserve listing rule requires me to have a start bid price that is comensurate with my actual item costs. If I listed for $0.99c and only received one bid, then I am required to sell at $0.99c. This is the inequality between the rules on the various eBay sites. The only way that I am able to sell to the States is to offer an item that no one else has on offer. Even offering rare LGB items, I am unable to attract bids, as the buying public would rather pay more in listing end price than pay me a much cheaper price and then add airmail shipping to the cost. The luxury of a reserve price on a listing and low domestic shipping fees, really disenfranchises overseas sellers from the 'local' market.
In a similar vein… or is that, in a jugular vein, Re: stock dumping.
Intereresting experience:
Last weekend on a visit to a very well known LHS here I found a large cardboard box in the entry containing plastic bags full of plastic parts just like in a model car kit, when I inquired I was informed that these were LGB Ore Cars, complete, just unassembled sans trucks.
Apparently on a visit to San Diego recently the owner picked them up at the LGBoA warehouse, the way he said this made me think that they were selling anything they could to dealers to keep the cash coming in! Somewhere down the line these were sent from the factory to San Diego, but SD didnt have anyone to assemble them nor any red boxes to package and ship them in. So he got at least one large box of these, and must have got them for cheap cause he was selling the unassembled kits… at $20 a car!!!
How much were those freaking car sets when they came out??? So I got 3 of them.
Pics to follow when I start assembling them. I may go back for more if these go together nicely
BTW as is mentioned in the latest listing, Buffington is just cleaning up the office.
That’s on my list for today, too.
Yesterday: Beautiful sunshine. Today: Blooming rain! Oh well, we need it, it is really dry around here.
