Driver Detective, anybody heard of it?

I went looking for a driver for my camera, so I can start downloading photos. I clicked on a site that proclaimed to be a download for my camera’s driver, and instead downloaded Driver detective. This thing now wants to scam my confuser.

I’m tempted to unload the thing.

Anybody heard of, or used, Driver Detective?

I had it on my last computer. From what I understand it to be, if you need a certain driver for a certain application, it’ll tell you what you need to get it to work.

That was quick. Thanks.

If it crashes my Com Pewter…

I never used it, so I dunno if it will or not.

Matter of fact, I think it came with a game I installed.

Steve, my camera has the sofware in it, I just plug it in and turn it on! You might want to try that one.

Thanks, Paul. Send me your camera…

How old is your computer? Any of the new computers will detect the camera and download photos using whatever program came with computer.

If it won’t work on your computor then go to your camera manufacturer’s web-site and you should find the appropriate driver for your camera.

Steve,
Are you trying to use an old camera with Windows 7 ?
Sometimes there are no drivers available. Manufacturers generally don’t write new drivers for old hardware.
They’d much rather you buy new hardware for your new software

That’s why I like film, more and more…

I have found it much easier and faster to get a camera with an SD card. Take the card out and plug it into your computer (USB adapter at Wal-Mart for <$20) and copy the pictures in your file manager (Windows Explorer or My Computer). No concerns for camera drivers, etc.

Maybe it is time for a new, more upto date camera? I might sent my old one with the 3 1/2 FD for which one needs a 3 1/2 FDD!

Paul

What camera do you have?
After a while the co,s. stop making drivers for the camers.
You may need to Google for your drivers.
I have used Driver Detective before it did work for me but that is when I had XP on my computer.
That was before I got a MAC, boy that was a mistake.
I still have a MAC, but I like my laptop much better. It is running Win7.
I’m much happyer now.
Give the driver detective a good shot it may come up with a driver for that camera.

I did use it, and found the needed drivers. Now I just have to make Com Pewter recognize the soft/hardware. Meebe when my son returns from deployment… :stuck_out_tongue:

Running XL Pro, prefer MSDOS.

When installing a USB device driver, you must make sure the device has not been plugged in, if you have, you must remove any traces of it left over, then, install the drivers, restart the machine, and then plug in the device.

Tell you what, if you could tell me what OS you’re running, and what the camera make/model number is, it would help immensely…

Thanks, Robert

Robert, XP Pro and Canon Power Shot S 40.

I probably screwed it up by having the camera plugged in while installing the software.

I so prefer MSDOS. This half baked copy of MAC OS never did work right.

You did not state this specifically, but I assume it is a USB interface.

When you plug it into the computer, does it make the “nice” usb sound: boo-bleep (low to high note?)

bee-bloop (high to low note) is bad… or boop-boop-boop (sequence of 3 or 4 low notes all same pitch)?

if you get the nice sound, you should be able to see the camera as another disk drive… you might have to have the camera on or off… depends on the camera… try both ways…

I like the cameras with the memory cards.
You don’t have to worry about drivers just a card reader, that’s easy.
No developing fees no going to the store no pick up.
