Interesting. Hard earned for sure, but a lucky guy.
One thing about living in England is that you are never far from a Heritage/Tourist Railroad. Mine, where I am a volunteer, is just two miles away. Within a 30 mile radius there are two more, a fifty mile radius brings in another two and within a 100 mile drive it brings a further seven or eight than can be visited.
England must have done a lot better job with preserving their rail lines. We’d rather tear up the old tracks and sell the property!
Funny you mentioned this, my son-in-law was just hired by BNSF as a Conductor Trainee and starts very soon. To bad it wasn’t me but I’m to old, he’s still young. Hopefully I’ll get a ride some day.
And I don’t imagine he is a train nut like we are! Congratulations to his being hired!
