Large Scale Central

Downsizing

The Weekend of York usually marks the start of Spring Building for me…I didn’t get to attend this year due to real world circumstances, but over the last week I have been thinking, plotting and planning and come to the conclusion that my Personal Journey of 7/8 is at an end. I have really done nothing in the last year…and the last two projects I started have languished in an unfinished state. Therefore I proclaim that I am moving my primary modeling scale over to 1:20.3 3 ft narrow gauge…

This switch should solve some theme/execution issues I’ve been wrestling with, as well as make a major impact in storage and staging, as well as construction being less resource intensive. I will be able to retain my locomotive fleet, as they were a bit anemic in 7/8 scale anyways, with a relatively minor redetailing; mainly new cabs and smaller appliances…

I have began by drawing up 1:20.3 scale rules for adjucts…and have begun planning my first 1:20 project…

And hopefully you will be sharing your progress and pictures with us here at LSC.

And just when 7/8 was beginning to gain popularity - there was even a operating point-to-point 7/8 layout at York. Well OK, not really a layout but a demo track with an auto-reverser.

I’m sure you’ll enjoy 1:20. EBT box cars anyone?

Phew! I thought for a minute you were converting to N scale!

Bart,

I share Jon’s sentiments, strange that you are leaving when everyone seems to be opening the door. Save your previous 7/8’s equipment as shelf queens and start on the 1/20.3 stuff. Your yard and track should be adaptable to both.

Keith’s 7/8’s module was all set up to WOW! guys like you and both him and I were dissapointed that the 7/8’s guys weren’t there to see it. He has done beautiful work.

Keep at doing both , Bart . That way you can change your mind frequently and not feel bad about it . I use several scales . 7/8 down to HO .
More 7/8 now the eyes are dimming . Can’t see the HO9 stuff very well .

Mike

I agree, Bart. Keep at both, or give one a rest from time to time. I do Half Zero, Zero (3-rail), 1:20.3, and 1:29. Sometimes I do all of them at the same time. :stuck_out_tongue: That can be crazy making.

Generally, it is the 3-rail in the winter and the outdoor stuff in the summer.

Ah , Steve , but do you use multi gauge track ?
I do , and I shall leave it at that for the horrified to tut over .
