Door Knockers

So…there I am contemplating my naveL, lfiguring out some resin molding problem when the doorbell rings…

Smart suited guy with a clipboard…before he got started I pointed to the door which has a plastic notice…NO salesman…cold callers etc…

“I am not a salesman” he said…“I am the owner”.

I had to ask him if owners read things differently from salesmen.

Blank stare and off he went…

Some people eh?

LMAO!!!

I love the English people…your trains are so cool (and always so well varnished!), and you have such a sharp, reserved sense of humor.

In parts of America, this is the kind of thing that could have started the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral !

Maybe the owners cannot read?

He can read, he just thinks he is special, like so many people in the world these days.

Special, read “the rules don’t apply to me”.

I forgot to say in my original post that he was the owner of the company he was selling for…

it also appears that 4 out of 5 callers selling things and dropping off junk mail cannot read either…and are appear quite amazed when I point to the notice…

But don’t get me started on the number of people like the mail man not using the pathway but cossing the 1 metre wide a flower border, the front patio and brushing past the rose standards as a short cut to the front door…!!(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

I thought you were saying he was the owner of your house and you refused to talk to him. Good joke, either way.

Saw a sign like this at a neighbor’s home.

Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. When someone mentions (door) knockers, this scene just comes to mind.

Here’s a funny true story about door-to-door salesman…

Many years ago, some time before I met her, Cris had a really bad encounter with a couple guys selling vacuum cleaners. Basically, they told her she could get a free set of knives if she let them come in and do a brief demonstration. Three hours of hard sell later, she finally had to threaten to call the police to get them to leave.

Now we jump ahead several years. I’m upstairs one day, and hear someone coming to the front door. I look down, and see two guys with a vacuum cleaner. Before I could say anything, Cris opens the door, takes one look at them, her eyes get real wide, and she shouts, NO WAY! as she slams the door in their faces. As the guys are leaving, I hear one of them saying, “That was weird!”

This is a little off to the side of the present discussion but I have to say I love the English peoples of Great Britain, especially their speech and language. A few years ago we were touring through England/Wales/Scotland and one morning we were in a small city in southern England, Chestershire if memory serves, where we saw a store front selling small hardware items, the store name was “Knobs & Knockers” As you can imagine we had a ball laughing our butts of about the name.

Well it seemed funny at the time, maybe you just had to be there.

Rick

Guess you were in Chester (the County Town of the County of Cheshire) but not the South of England…its more Northern.

Yes…there are some odd names choosen for shops…catches the eye! (There is actually a website with the same name in the UK.)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

A ssearch does not find a company of this name in Cheshire (NW England) but does In Harrogate, Yorkshire (NE England) and another in London. There is also one in Dublin, Eire.

If you are travelling to India there is one in the east, Australia has one as does New Zealand. Finally closer to your home it appears there is one in PA. (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

Thanks for the research information guys, we were there in 1985 so I expect things may have changed a little(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)
