Dolbeer Donkeys

I would like to build a couple of 20.3 Dolbeer logging donkeys. The early versions of the donkeys had a large flat bevel gear connected via another small bevel gear and flywheel to the cylinder. I need to find a 56" (70mm in 20.3) flat bevel gear. I have been unable to find anything with the correct size. I am hoping to find something at or near the correct size to avoid trying to build a gear from scratch.

The Ozark dolbeer donkeys don’t appear to be correct size for 1:20.3.

Thanks for any help

Bill, check with a vendor of RC cars and car parts. A differential gear may come in a size close enough for you to use

Bill,

Have you thought about trying the drive from a hand crank drill?

They come in all different sizes and some are pretty reasonable at the

discount tool places.

Or for that matter have you looked at WM Berg or Stock Drive Products? They have a plethora of gears in all forms.

David: I have not been able to find a 70MM bevel gear on any of the RC car/plane web sites.

Rick: Good idea. I will check my local harbor freight. Another possibility suggested by another person is the old fashioned egg beaters. Same principle as the hand crank drill but likely lighter in construction.

Bob: I have found a few correct size bevel gears but they all are steel or aluminum and have a large price tag. I am reluctant to pay $60-$150 for a gear that will be partially hidden in a non-operating model.

Thanks to everyone for you ideas and suggestions.

Plastruct makes a bevel gear, but not the large one that you want, just the small one. Have you looked at Thingiverse? Maybe you could get one printed, since it’s non-working.
