Large Scale Central

Does the gearing really.....oh, wait. SNOW!

Coming out of Frost Siding, just into the 4%.

Proceeding up through Confusion Junction (CJ) towards the grade to White Rock (WR).

The “Gorge Line” up the 4% to WR was too packed for up-hill plowing, so back to Frost, up the old River Rock (RR) line to Malfunction Junction (MJ) where we stop for messages,

Underway from MJ towards Glory (GL) on the Lilac Branch.

Coming into the North Switch at Glory, running downgrade, will plow into the turntable pit, and back out to MJ.

Backed through MJ, cleaned out the points, bent the iron, proceeded through the leg of the “wye” towards Laurel Yard (LY), heading towards the station for messages and water at the tank.

Out of LY, on Steven’s Canyon Trestle, heading for WR.

This is a shot of WR before the plow extra hit the snow. Taken with a telephoto lens from atop the east tunnel portal just outside of MJ.

Bucking the drifts into WR, passing the spur to the oil depot and the lumber yard, on the siding towards the station. Just preparing to back up onto the trestle and hit it hard.

Back in the terminal for service and a cuppa joe. When serviced, the plow crew will attempt to clear the California and Nevada to Mound House.

Those are BEAUTIFUL pictures and very realistic. Be sure to keep the MOW Crew warm and well fed.
Here on Old Cape Cod we are expecting 8" to 10" of snow starting tomorrow, it will be the first snow of the year.
Happy RRoading

I’d say proper gearing would be required to get maximum traction effort. Great pictures Dave!

Its about time your sharing snow pictures. I have been hearing you guys in the NW been getting cold weather and snow. Pictures look great. Something about trains running in the snow. Your layout is perfect for snow scenes. Im forcasted for 12+ inches of snow for tomorrow. Too bad I have to work.

Lite-weight! You call that snow?
Oops, I forgot, Seattle.
I looked on your web cams today and had to laff my ass off watching those Puget Sound drivers.
We got 26" over night here. A record for a 24 hour fall.
My layout has disappeared, bridges and all.

Oh, nice pics, by the way.

All we’re getting in the next couple of days is rain…Good pix, Dave.

Great pictures Dave. Looks like you and the crew had a lot of fun clearing the line.

Ah, but the Puget Sound dries out of this when it goes over the Crashcades to give you wimps DRY snow.
Have a freind who got tranferred to Denver.
He said 2" in Seattle drives like 24" in Denver.

Personally, I’d rather drive on pack than ice.

Nice pics!

DAVE,

Love the pics, really good shots.

Nice. QED as they say.

great plowing pictures…

NICE pictures, Dave. Thanks for posting them.

We have a foot of snow on the way today/tonight, and maybe another 6-8 Sunday. Whee!

Snow…whats that?

Great pic’s Dave! That sure looked like alot of fun. Tried plowing my layout the other day after the first snow fall, 1:22.5 plows don’t plow 1:1 snow as well as I’d thought, lol!

I'm kinda bummed I'm going to miss out tonight, was really looking forward to it. Oh well, guess that's the downside of working the commuters...

Well, too cold, street too icy, we called the ops meet for tonight.

It was not the snow on the RR, it was the sheet of ice on all the roads to get there! I like Chris was looking foreward to running, all charged up and no where to go! If I was not winterized on the SVRR I would plow.

Paul

Lol, yeah Paul! I was even trying to see if i could swap trains with one the earlier crews so I could try and get back sooner. They of course all thought I was nuts, as if I didn’t get enough railroading in the snow this week at work, I wanted to go and do some more just for fun!

I do miss my train ‘fix’ for this half of the month! Only saving thing is New Years Day - all day or untill the batterys are daed or the food runs out - oh no keep Mike away from the food!!!
