Large Scale Central

Does anyone watch live railroad cams?

I watch the one from Lawrence Kansas. The camera is mounted in this guys shed and it is pretty hi tech.

No advertisements and no gimmicks. Just lots of trains.

The BNSF and Amtrak run through Lawrence/Topeka Sub division. There is live train talk with dispatchers, crew, Hostlers etc. The video is pretty decent. I typically watch at night when Amtrak #3 roles in around
11: 42 Central Time. BNSF freight trains run both east and west. Amtrak #3 goes west to LA and Amtrak #4 runs east.

I also watch several European live cams. Like Plattsburg Rail Yard in Germany. This yard is bustling with constant activity during the week. Everything from freight to passenger come through.

Rail Serve is the best source for these cams. There might be others, but I stick with what works. They have cams from the USA, UK, Japan, Australia, Europe and others.

Anyway, it is fun to watch.

PS I see Hans posted that address before me. Sorry about the repeat.

Nan, not since Klambake made subscription a requirement for the Rochelle cam, also it seams like alot of live cams have either gone the way of the dodo or are such poor quality as to be virtually unwatchable anymore. If I feel the urge to do some armchair railfanning YouBoob has more than enough train stuff to waste my time with.

Many sites do not require any type of subscription. However, there may be advertising which disrupts the viewer when something may be happening.

The Lawrence Kansas cam is free from any of this and the view is not real bad. Is it right up close to the trains? Nope, but it is close enough that you can at least enjoy some rail traffic. That coupled with the radio chatter is pretty nice.

One night in February the cam was real busy with non stop rail traffic. Trains running east and west and yard talk as well as the Amtrak trains later that evening.

I also watch Horseshoe Curve (available on Rail Serve), during the day, one can see numerous NS trains running in both directions and often one right after another. The view is pretty good, but at night, it is a bust. No light. Just sounds.

I hardly find time to watch my own videos and other people’s good stuff e.g. videos without inane commentary, garish tunes and whatever else is added for effect.

Apart from that I’m so busy getting my layout rolling, I don’t have time to go railfanning except when it rains. Yeah, really!

BTW busy railway station? Central Station Zürich Switzerland 05:00 http://primetower.ch/webcam/livestream

View is across the storage tracks, engine facilities and all that other good stuff with tracks coming in from four directions.

Traffic density: 2915 trains/24hrs

The European cams are busy alright. That one you mentioned, doesn’t it require one join. Just wondering if it is the same one I see on Rail Serve.

As a general rule I only list stuff that doesn’t require a subscription. No need to annoy people.

Perhaps I was thinking of another cam.

Anyway, I agree.
