… teach physics in high school? How recently did they start that?
I took physics in high school back in the dark ages when the race to space was just in it’s infancy.

Happy RRing,

Our high school required that you take one lab science to graduate. You had the choice between Physics, Chemistry or Biology. Back in the days of the cold war and the space race they were big on math and science. Actually they were big on education…something that’s lacking in our schools today.
Thank you, Gentlemen!
I was just curious after reading certain posts if physics was part of the curriculum.
I appreciate that there are limitations, in trade school we had to take “Electrics” - taught by a prof from the university - very interesting course.
The prof made me sit out the exams on more than one occasion, he called it “levelling the playing field” ( ), funny as hell how the level evened out if I wasn’t in “group whatever” and people couldn’t peer over shoulders. Those auditorium style class rooms could be an advantage or a disadvantage.
I didnt get physics till I was in college! My high school deemed it more important to get me out of that seat to make room for the next schlameel coming behind me. No help from the so called counselers, it was a “thanks for showing up here’s your diploma dont let the door hit you on the way out” sort of school. So practical upshot was that I had to go to JC for a couple of years to learn all the stuff that the high school didnt think was important for me, ya know, English, Math, History, yada yada…
I got university level physics, two quarters full for my major, funny thing, everyone I knew got a C or so in class and a A in the lab, I got a A in the class and a C in the lab, sorry, but I just thought dropping those stupid balls and measuring the distance was just the dumbest thing ever…guess its a good thing I’m not designing rockets eh?
I once got “thrown out” of a class…because the professor claimed I knew the subject better than he did… I got my “A”. That’s all that mattered…

The combined brain-power admitted to by all you guys is surely enough to solve the mysteries of not only THIS universe, but the other one where I live.

Waddeysay???
Terry, sounds like you need to pack your bags and come on over for a vacation. It might improve your sense of humor…

Who needs to go to heaven when you die when you can go to Oregon while you are still alive?
Best wishes
tac, the feeling slightly better person this evening now we’re back from hospital knowing that my mom who is in intensive care is being looked after better than we can do it.

Terry,
Best wishes for mum, and get her out of the expensive care unit as soon as you can.

ps, no one over here understands British humor at all
pps… I took HS “Honors” physics and slept through it. I think I got a “B.” It was just a re-hash of things I learned building my Lionel layouts.
Then, at University, I took Engineering Physics, or rather I should say, it took me…

In our small, country, middle of America, backwards, still Christian community, we just had a young lady graduate from the local community college on Wednesday night a couple of weeks ago. Not overly unusual, but she also graduated from the local high school on the following Friday night. She will turn 18 in about a month. Her parents and their friends and family are all quite proud. Her Dad dellivers fuel for us. She starts at the University of Illinois in the fall as a Junior. First one like that in this area.
I hope she really does something with her life. I’d hate to see that kind of talent wind up stuck at home “barefoot and pregnant”. Sadly it happens too often.
…and all I managed to do that might interest you guys, with my life; was to legally print money, for the Canadian Government, at a local “American owned” printing plant.
Yes I took several years of good training in three sciences, at the old Ottawa Technical High School, but learned more from my interest in Model Railroading, over the years.
