Display Shelving?

Is there anyone out there that still makes display shelving for G-scale trains?
I had bought some from a company about 15-years ago for my S-gauge trains (they also made them for G) but it seems that they have gone out of business (or at least I can’t find them).
Used to be a metal shelf that you would screw to the wall, had molded in ridges for the wheels to set in.
If I can find the brand name I will post it (or a picture of the shelving).

But, I am open to anything that may be available!
I want to get all my trains out of there boxes so I can see them. I know I can have someone build me what I am looking for but I was just seeing if there was something available.

Thanks,
Vinny

or you can build them yourself from 1x shelving material(wood). It isn’t that difficult…

Vincent,
I recall the stuff you mean - had some on the wall in NJ about20 years ago.

I currently use wall baseboard molding. It looks attractive if you varnish it, and it has a 45mm groove in the back just for the wheels ! I attach small metal brackets to the studs (every stud where the loco sits,) and bolt through with brass bolts and washers. (You can see a bracket, but he bolts are almost invisible.)
I also use regular shelves on wall brackets.

I want to say the company was called Rail Raxx? (maybe)

Here is the ones for my S-gauge:

I like that Pete!
Will have to go take a look at my local Lowe’s and see what they have.
What did you use to attach the board to the walls? and how often?

Vincent,
I edited my original post and added photos while everyone piled on - the info is there.

And yes, they were Rail Raxx.

I’ve seen one at train shows that’s the most beautiful clear plexiglass or maybe lexan. Oh, what’s their name… Well, they’re doing a pretty good job of hiding.

Here in shaky So. Cal, I’d be afraid to put trains so high up on such narrow shelves!

I guess Ray you could always put up a guard rail to hold them in. Later RJD

Vincent,

If you end up going with the 1x6 (or whatever) shelf method, here are some sub-options you may or may not be aware of, to keep your trains on track:

– sawing or routing grooves in the boards (that’s how my shelves are done, w/ grooves cut w/ a circular saw)

– gluing / nailing on a couple of strips of masonite / other thin material for wide “rails” (saw that in an article, not sure where)

– nailing down some plastic “display track” from Train Li (pricey though)

– and, well, just getting some junk track from Ebay or shopgoodwill.com … (I use my old Bachmann track on a couple shelves)… maybe consider New Bright track…

Best luck in whatever choice you make,

Cliff

If I could build something anyone can. Go to AC moore or something similar and by those shelves they have dirt cheap. Just stain them, throw some track on them and you have train shelves.

Just called them, they have plenty of stock and it looks like this will be what I will use seeing how I already have some for my S-gauge trains.
The only show they will be attending is York, and I will need these before then.

Bringing an older thread back up to the top, but I wanted to put out a “thank you” to the helpful forum members for turning me on to the Glen Snyder Display Systems shelving! I was not the original inquirer but benefited from the sharing of knowledge. I ordered some 3 weeks ago thanks to this post, received it last week, and have just installed it.
Just what I needed! Easy to install (important) and works well.
