Dismantling an Accucraft electric K27 and first run C16

I have dismantled an Bachmann K27 and a Kiss K36 which are pretty easy and straightforward but would like a few pointers or tips on the procedure for the Accucraft K27 and the older C16.

I am uprating the Pittman motors to the ones with better gear ratios for slow speed torque and for downhill resistance.

Any input will be gratefully received.

Mike— Seems that nobody has replied to you… The answer is to contact Greg Posta at Rio Grande Southern (RGS) Hobbies up in Ridgeway. He has the Pittman/gearhead kits and instructions to install at least the K27 motor— I did that conversion some years ago, improving low speed performance greatly. There was an article by Greg on how to do the K in an old Outdoor RRer, but I think his instructions are the same info. Not too hard, really, once you get over the idea of taking apart your Xpensive Mantle Potato and gutting the power train…

C16 has 6 screws for cab removal, plus one screw at the rear over the coupler, and open the boiler and hold the nut white removing the front truck.

Only pipes are in the way now.

I just opened one last night. Frame is left track power and the right rail power is from the tender. This makes installing a decoder a fun project as a wiring harness has to be made between the engine and tender.

Note these have 12 volt motors and if running DCC the decoder should be programmed to limit the top motor voltage/speed.
