Large Scale Central

Dirty and Dusty Decommissioned

After the Dirty and Dusty Railway was decommissioned, I began taking up the track yesterday on my big layout here on the desert.

This past year has brought a lot more dust devils that have leveled almost every building on the big layout! The town of Silver Onyx was nearly leveled after it was hit more than once. All three stations were destroyed.

I surrendered and am preparing to build an indoor layout!

I will have pictures as soon as I can figure out why I couldn’t post them last night! Probably user error!

Hi Doug,

Sorry, to hear the last year was such trouble for the layout. Will you be staying with Gauge 1 indoors?

I hear you brother, I have a sailing platform, that as of yesterday acquired an out of scale mineral specimen / anchor. Instead of giving up, I cast my buildings in cement! I also chose to feature the run between civilizations.

The platform is what is left from the fancy covered one …

Rocky, even though I used to model HO, I am sticking with G scale. I like the size and am long-time friends with my G scale dealer!

John. even though some of my buildings are cement one of those dust devils actually blew one about four feet! We were just happy the house wasn’t damaged!

Here is what the town of Silver Onyx looks like today.

Silver Onyx looks like a blank ?

Yeah, it all blew away (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Hey Doug - Sorry to hear of your outdoor layout’s demise, but look forward to seeing what you can do indoors. Indoors can be easier because you don’t need to build for the elements, or harder because you don’t need to build for the elements and can use lighter materials for more detail (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

Sounds like a no choice move Doug. I’ll be looking forward to your new Clean and Vacuumed Road (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Doug, if you need any help, let me know and I will give you a hand. Sad to see it go, we had a some good times working on it.

I will give you a yell. But I figure the new layout will be a switching layout that is end to end so it will be a lot of fun. I got the big curve at the one end out this weekend plus one siding so I got started!
