Directional Lights for the LGB Amtrak Acela

A club member at our monthly club meeting asked me about adding directional lights to the LGB Amtrak Acela.

I am not familar with this train yet, so am asking if anyone can help.

The kit is expensive from LGB and he was wondering what local parts can be used for the conversion.

I have several electronic part stores here I can pick up what is need, a schematic would be nice also.

I do not know the voltage of the bulbs, is a voltage regulator circuit needed? wiring, etc.

Do’s and Don’ts.

Like most LGB stuff, the lights are prolly 5 Volt. That way they will interchange with everything they make now-a-days.
That’s all I would know. The directional function requires all kinds of diodes, etc. Somethin’ I stay away from.

Yes, most likely 5v, altho they do have higher voltage ones (backup on a Sumpter for one).

That said, if they aren’t now, all you need to do is check the power off the board to the lights with a Voltmeter, with power applied and motors running, then reverse the power.
If the voltmeter pegs the other way, a diode is all you need.

Feel free to call or e-mail when you get it onto the bench, and I’ll walk you through it.

in GR ad.

Can’t the same thing be done withthe Acela as was done to my Amtrak and LCE loco’s with the white forward/reverse red LED’s??? I can’t post a pic here but TOC, you remember right???

Is that what we want?
Markers turning red and green?
Or headlights?

I wonder aloud why this was not included in the production, but rather an expensive add-on?

Er , would that be to make more profit , Dave ?
