Directional lighting question

When I kitbash my Bachmann center cab, I want to replace the blue LED headlights with some nice warm white LEDs. I also want to convert the lights to run on a small battery pack, so that the lighting remains constant and can remain lit even when stopped.

The only thing I like about the existing headlights is the fact that they are directional. Is there any way to keep that feature?

If you leave them as track powered they will continue to work the same way. If you want the battery powered constant lighting there is probably a circuit you could build that would sense the polarity of the track power and switch the lights. Perhaps one of our electronic geniuses will come up with a circuit.

I’ve got a doo dad that will do what you want.

It is called # REV-LT. I don’t advertise it at all.
You will need to have about 5-6 volt batteries to power it and power the LED’s. The LED’s would require a resistor in series to protect the # REV-LT.
Two wires are connected to the motor(s).
The lights will be off when stationary and come on in the appropriate direction when .7 of a volt is applied to the motors.
You would have to wire in a switch to turn the batteries off when not running.
