Anyone know if there is any intent by Bachmann to launch a new 1:20.3 diesel? Or even re issue the 45 tonner? The 45 tonner appeared to have sold quite strong. I know they have a 70 tonner in “ho” so I was hoping they would launch a 1:20.3 version. Any thoughts??
Probably not, but I’d really like a 65-ton-range NG diesel.
I’d go for a 65 ton. Wish they would do one.
When the 1:20 point me site was up. There was some talk about a manufacturer doing a SP 70 tonner. Never seen anything about it again.
Something like this, but NG, would sell, I would think.
Unfortunatly theres not a very long list of viable dismal NG candidates

SP Little Giant maybe?

D&RGW US Army test units, would be an interesting model.

WP&Y Dizzys

or international flavor? Brazillian BB40 meter gauge. Like I said, its a short list
Short list indeed…but I’d buy one in a heartbeat. Just too many hobbies and too little time.
I’d love to have a WP&Y 103 in exact 1:20.3 scale.
LGB had the chance…
Bob- right on! That’s what I was talking about. Those would sell out faster than the 45 tonner!
John I would also like that. I think the lgb one is more than a little off from 1:20.3 I like the shovel nose better.
Huumm… check out them trucks!!!
Ge or Alco it’s all good.
I don’t understand?
USA or Aristo it’s all good.
Edit for ditch light’s ???
In this economy I just don’t see that anyone will bring out anything new. Maybe re-paints/numbers but that is about it.
LGB /Marklin should reissue its WP&Y dismal …in correct paint hopefully. Not holding my breath.
Ok, rooster! I’ve just spent 30 seconds trying to kill the bug on my screen. One point awarded.

From what I’m led to believe, the 45-tonner wasn’t exactly a smashing success. A few years ago, they were being dumped at under $100 by a handful of dealers. Most of the feedback I’ve heard relative to the 45-tonner was that it was just too big, being a standard-gauge-size diesel on narrow gauge trucks (which is precisely what the prototype was.) I don’t know what the sales figures really were, but it’s easy to see how the 45-tonner does tower over narrow gauge rolling stock.
There are, however, a fair number of more “narrow gauge” sized 3’ gauge diesels that manufacturers could easily choose from. The EBT has played host to a few of them over the years, (currently their M-7, and the Durango & Silverton has an identical unit) and there are the locos running at the Georgetown Loop and also at the Colorado RR museum. I’m not a diesel guy (unless it has siderods), but something like those–smaller than B’mann’s 45 tonner, but having a fairly generic look to it, would likely be fairly successful.

Kevin right on! We all see it, now how do we get someone to build it?
Ridge Road Station several years ago had the 45 tonner on clearance for $69.00. I really do not see Bachmann show any future intrerest in a diesel. However, several years ago when Rich Yoder models announced their ‘little giant’ project, there was much discussion as to a largescale model from possibly Bachmann. Hardly likely these days due their ‘market failure’ with the G.E. diesel.

The most unusual use for the Bmann Dizzy was that the F scale crazies discovered that removing the siderods and moving the wheels and sideframes out yielded a very Standard Gauge 1/20 loco!
One of my “someday” projects is to downscale my Bachmann dismal into a 1/24th scale end-cab unit.
