Large Scale Central

Diamond Jim's Saloon

On another thread I showed a deteriorating couple of buildings, a saloon and a sheriffs office. In between running trains and the usual yard work that happens this time of year, I’ve made a little progress on the saloon and sheriff’s office.

The base it’s sitting on is a PVC product called Rot Free PVC Board I found in one of the aisles at the local Lowe’s, similar to the TrimPlank I’ve bought. It has a smooth side and a wood grain side.

I have the roof formed up, I just haven’t decided what type of roofing I want to use.

Hand split real shakes would look nice!

Nice start Ken. I like the dark green.

Tell ya what. Since you're probably the expert on putting them things on by now, I'll send the roof out to ya.........;)

Ken Send it on… I figure with a little automation added, it shouldn’t take me more then 15-20 min tops, as long as I don’t run out of nails…

Scale? what scale? I’ll jest set a 50 Ft rule on that on… No one notice…Really they won’t.

Who’s Diamond Jim?

Hey Rooster,

I assume Ken is referring to Diamond Jim Brady,
only us old guys would remember him

I remembered hearing about the guy and it seemed an appropriate name for an old west saloon…

Thats going to look good Ken. I like the colors… Gived me an idea for the mountain boys. They could really use a saloon especially for those cold winter days.

An update:

I have a couple of different type railings ordered from some dollhouse places. Once I get them I’ll decide which one I like.

Still some trim and a touch up on the paint yet to do. It’ll probably get a corrugated metal roof.

LMAO

Looks good Ken, I like that roof line. With the corrogated metal roof for the angled sections, are you also going to paint the flat section or cover it with a roll roofing effect?

Ain’t sure yet, Dave. I might go with corrugated over the whole roof.

Decided on the corrugated for the top and the shake shingles on the sides.

That’s turning out to be a fine looking build Ken.

Very nice Ken. Do you need the ‘Diamond J’ etched into the fluted frosted mug sign for this one
