Large Scale Central

Devils Gate Bridge

Today we had a bring your train and run event for the two local Large Scale Clubs.

Fortunately the tropical storm cleared up early and we had a great day.

The photo below shows the progress on our version of the Devils Gate Bridge. We built an approach last year but did not like the result so are currently rebuilding them. Should be in this week. Next is to build a mold for the pillar’s the bridge will sit on.

No photo Stan.

Have not posted photos since the site improved.

How is this now done.

I was thinking “that’s the last time I invite David Copperfield to an ops session…”

I’ve always had success just typing out the URL. No tags, or anything else–just the URL

The 3 locomotives are Bachmann C-19s. In my opinion the best running locomotives we have ever had running on our railroad.

The bridge is steel and made by Mainline bridges. It was built from the actual plans of the Devils Gate bridge on the Georgetown loop and built to 1:20.3 specs. We had to make a few differences. On the prototype the 2% grade goes from right to left. On the SJR&P it goes from Left to Right.

The biggest difference however is the height of the inner most center piers. On the prototype it is longer to allow the train to go under this pier. Our location did not allow this extra debth.

Damian has made a number of our bridges. He does a good job of making an affordable custom bridge that is to scale.

THAT is IMPRESSIVE!!!

Great photo spot. Looks nice Stan, thanks for sharing.

That is sweet.
