Detailing my AMS combine

My fiancé bought me a green unlettered AMS combine! So of course I set about ripping it to pieces. As Bart would say “it had a date with the screwdriver of destiny”.

I recently did a coach much the same way except it was lettered so I stripped and repainted it as well. For the record Floquil Pullman Green was a dead match. Sucks they are going away.

So, I remove the lights and track pickups and add a globe style light I found on ebay. I wire it for battery power using a LiIon 7.4v battery and add a switch and charge jack. I also add kadee couplers. I do minimal work to the interior because you really can’t see that much. I paint the seats a wine color, add figures and put a shade on the bathroom window. I did put a wood floor in the baggage section though because I want to be able to leave the doors open. I think the biggest thing I do is add a tar paper roof.

At any rate here’s some pics:

These (the little white dots) are the light globes. When lit they have nice glow.

Charge jack and switch.

Some boxes I built around the battery and schtuff I wanted to hide. You can also see the wood floor. It’s a piece of scribed wood I ordered from micro mark. I cut the styrene floor out and used it as a template for the wood.

Overview of the whole interior:

Here’s a start to the roof. It’s just 2" masking tape. I buy good tape to do this because I don’t want it to come loose.

More done.

I need to paint the roof and letter it.
More to come…

Looking good so far. I really like the wood floor.

That is looking really great Terry. looking to see the progress.

That’s good Terry. Break her in so when you are married she’ll buy you RR stuff!

Oh, nice work on the combine!

Nicely done Terry. Shows that a little goes a long way

…winking…

Some crappy pics, sorry, I’ve been to busy running it to take pictures.

Combine looks great. That’s a serious elevation change you have going on there. Do you know what the grade is?

Jon, it’s under 2%. Looks way worse in the picture.

Super! About how many feet around the loop from the crossover point and the vertical separation at the crossover? I’ve got a loop that has been on the back burner for several years due to large grade change and wondering how much track I’d have to add to overcome it.

Here’s the thread where I built it.

I don’t remember the length, I can get it day after tomorrow. If memory serves me correct, The big loop is a 14’ dia and the smaller, lower loop is 11’. Where the rails cross is about 24" from railhead to railhead. It also has easements to the grade.

I know that the Bachmann K27 with Rodney’s drive can do 14 (ams & Bachmann freight) cars, the shay can do 15 and the shay and climax can haul everything I own up it!

Terry

Thanks! I remember that thread now. I thought the loop looked familiar.

Looks good Terry. The little extra details really brings it to life

Terry are the “light globes” incandescents? Where did you get them?

Thanks, Greg
