Designing my next building

The past few days I’ve been trying to decide on a design for the next building in my town of Dos Manos. It will be positioned next to the rock shop, with stairs in between leading up to another structure higher on the hill. I’m using an old 3D modeling program to work out the design. At first I was thinking of making two narrow buildings, something like this:

The problem is that the two buildings would have to be extremely narrow, bordering on caricature. My first two structures are already very small, so I don’t want to push it too much, especially since the next buildings will be much larger. So here’s the design I came up with for a single building:

I think the proportions are much better with this one. What do you think? BTW, the textures shown here are just a rough approximation.

Ray,
Maybe it’s just me. But I can’t tell one red X from the other

Hmm, the images are showing up just fine here.

I'm getting red X's over at MLS too. Ralph

The Mac didn’t like the drawings either.

All I get is:

Ok, I found the problem. Should be fixed now.

. Nope. :(

Argh… Third time’s the charm… I hope.

There don’t appear to be any pictures there. When I paste the URL in a window it just comes up as text …raydunakin.com/IRRWebfiles/DosBuildingsTest1.jpg

I can see them if I post them.

Tall and narrow like Piko buildings

As Hansel said to Gretel, about 45 minutes after they discovered the “Gingerbread House,” Oh, yeah, I see it too."

Looks interesting, Ray. Thanks, Brian.

Ray,
I like the larger building better. But I would go with 1 door.
The buildings in photo one do look too narrow.
Ralph

Ray, any chance we can get a refresher pic of the building site to help with choice?

I don’t know Ray…I will ask what your after? You stated the next “building” but your first picture shows 2. I like the 2nd picture of just one however back too the 1st picture of the 2 different structures. I think that picture or scene if I may call it that shows 2 different types of architecture. Perhaps change the building on the right some by squaring up the windows instead of the arches. I kinda like the two together but I think the pallidan windows or arched windows make the structure to heavy for it’s narrowness. I do like the idea of the 2 together cause if you get the dimensions correct I feel the differences in architecture will pack a bigger punch as a scene that just the one building. Final note as Dave M suggested how about a picture of the said area your planning on placing this newest addition and I may change my thoughts all together? You asked for opinions?

Thanks for the feedback! I’ll see if I can get a photo of the site posted this evening.

Could be a saloon with “Billiards Upstairs.”

Ok here are two shots of the site:

I tried dropping in the 3D model images to get a rough idea of how they might look. I know I didn’t get the perspective right so I’m not sure how accurate these are. But both designs look pretty good:

That’s pretty neat looking. I like both, so maybe it depends on what’s going to be next door to them.

If you want the 2nd building, I’d consider just having one door and more glass to look through. But, I really like the cast iron railing on the brick building along with those windows.

Very hard to decide.
