Large Scale Central

Deming, New Mexico, Auction

I’m not sure if any of you are auction junkies, but I just got a notice from Matney Auctions in Deming, NM, which shows their Sat., Feb. 7, at 10:00am, containing a bunch of large scale vehicles (construction equipment, etc.) and some pallets full of structures. http//:www.matneyauctions.com My Ex is a devotee of this auction, and sometimes, especially in winter, there’s nobody there and stuff goes for near-nothing. I have no idea as to phone bids, web bids, etc., but they seem like nice folks/ a big family who want to be helpful. I show their phone # as 575-543-8339.
Check out the photos for fun, at least…

Some dang nice diecast models there. 'specially the crane.

Sure is some nice diecast models there for sure. Anyone know anything about the two locomotives and their cars?

Those buildings look familiar, I wonder whose RR it was?

More interested in that Ranchero, love to get my paws on one of them!

Pretty cool. John if you buy that crane you’ll need to buy this lot of trucks to get the accessories…

And if you do; I’ll buy that Seagraves fire truck in the back right corner off ya! I also really like the 1960 Mack Dump…

Those are Jim Beam liquor decantors, they sold them a few years ago.

Damn, is it worth the drive?

About 30 miles north of Mexico. In the middle of nowhere.

You can take the Sunset Limited to Deming, if you pick the right day!

Mr. Bouck!!! I hope you’re not casting asparagus on the cosmopolitan glories of Deming!!! And Dick is right— Amtrak still serves the old depot. Deming was/is a pretty active RR town— still a lot of historical societies and such devoted to RR history. Now, the town is a center of snowbird activity in winter. It used to be you could go down to Palomas, Mex., for great food and to get your teeth fixed— things have gotten pretty tense of late, however.
I’m tempted to say my wife is from there, but then all too many of you will have an idiot-savant memory of the ancient joke…
Two guys talking about Green Bay, Wis. "Hell, all they got there are football players and whores!’, says one. The other yells “Hey, pal, my wife’s from Green Bay!!”. The first guy says “Oh Yeah-- what position did she play??”.
Good God… talk about fouling a thread…

I’m still interested in that Ranchero

John,

There’s some pretty rugged country NW of there. I’d love to poke around it with my 4 Wheeler.

Looking for old mines and such.

But anyway, if you would like to drive about 130 miles south of your place and buy all that diecast…We could talk…Just sayin’…

Well I have my wife 85% talked into running down there to check these pallets of stuff out. And of course try and scoop up the diecast.

John— If you decide to go, and are new to the wonders of Deming, my ex-step-daughter runs the visitor center there and can help you get situated. Her name is Kathy Hodson, and she will tell you more than you want to know. 575-567-1962 is the center #. If you google Deming Visitor Center, you’ll get the motel lists, etc. There are a handful of good restaurants there, including my favorite, The Adobe Deli-- great steaks!! There’s also the biggest winery in NM.
McCown !!! Lock this thread!! We’re drifting…

I would love to have that Allis Chalmers crawler! Nice looking stuff!

How did this turn out? Anyone go?

Not until this Sat. 2/7, Jerry… My Ex is going, and will report. Weather will be very good if the wind doesn’t kick up too much. I’ll be very curious to see what action there is on this stuff…

Seems like the link no longer available. Later RJD

Not sure what happened, but you can google Matney Auctions and they have some new, non-RR, stuff. My ex fried her back, and may not be able to go on Sat.—Not sure how we can get a report unless one or two of you lunatics decide to go…
