Will there be a re-enactment of the GG1 crashing into the basement?

That has to be one of the highlights of its history!

I remember being there twice. Once on my trip to Florida by rail, then the return three weeks later.
My fondest memory was the BEST muffins that I have ever had; purchased in the great hall. Then there was the Oyster Bar…along with a fine whine and bheer selection…could one ask for anything more ?

Too bad that the direct run from Montreal to Washington is no-longer available. It was called the “Montrealer”…no stopover at high hotel costs needed, back in those days.
It was almost a pleasure to have a 6 hour layover in that station on my return trip from Florida to Montreal.
If I remember correctly; the oysters were a bargin, and I had at least two dozen…THEY WERE GREAT.

The Trip both ways to Tampa, from Montreal were GREAT…it sure beat driving or flying…it was a party both ways with great people from all over. Strangers at the start, but we all gained friendships…it all was in the bar car…if you stayed in coach or sleeper you missed it. If I could do it again tomorrow; I’d be at the station NOW…

Pics of the locos and some of the passenger cars (and a few of the layout) -

Thanks Ken. The only car I know that info on is the Southern RPO. They had a nice handout with articles on the railway mail service. #36 is normally at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC.
