Thanks, Matt…the video quality’s just fine.
That’s A LOT OF TRACK! Good thing he gets it wholesale. Wow.
Day 1: Favourite stock to see are the grain hoppers. Not part of my fleet, so I enjoy seeing them being run. The circus train was really fun to see.
Day 2. The length of some the consists is really impressive, can only be appreciated on a magnificent set up such as that at Robbie’s place. I spotted the passenger trains, great.
As an earlier post remarked there is an awful lot of track. Who cleans it? (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)Or are the locos battery operated?
I am sure the place is well worth a visit for those who can make it.
Matt that was really good. A very impressive layout
Thanks Joe. It’s just not as high quality as using my phone. I’m not sure how old that digital camera is, but it’s ancient. haha. Robby built on to his layout this past summer. There is a huge addition with a siding the runs the whole length around. Just for us guys with long trains. Then the main layout has three mainlines and a large yard. There are switches and crossovers all over. You can pretty much go anywhere and whatever direction you want. With a ton of guys running, you have to pay attention. haha.
Alan, those may be grain hoppers you are seing. I have the three CSX Dash 9’s pulling a mixed freight with quite a few grain hoppers in it. Several of them weathered… Randall has the custom painted chessie system dash 9 with a custom painted sd45 chessie. Robby has a grain train that he uses his NS dash 9’s to pull. The circus train was Ken Hamilton. I think he is from New Jersey. Super cool guy. There were guys from all over there.
Rocky and Rex are always running passenger trains. Rex is a steam guy. Rocky also runs some more modern freight all after the great northern. There were several of us with long trains. Me, Robby, Fred with the big boy, Rocky, and Randal. I didn’t even run all the cars I brought. I’m close to 50 cars on that mixed freight now and Robby is close to 60 grain hoppers on his train. Scott and his son Aaron bright their Illinois Central engines, MKT engines, all custom painted except for the sd70. Brian has the three Wisconsin central sd45’s and the soo gp30. His train was pretty long too.
This setup is for battery power or live steam. There is no power to the track, so now cleaning needed. Most of the track is aluminum, but he ran out and used brass flex on the addition. The switches are the largest LGB switches they make.
It’s a really good time if anybody can make it. Robby does two open houses a year. There is food, drinks, and ton’s of trains. More and more people come each time. Some camp at the shop. He has one rv hookup. But, several guys tent camp. The other non locals stay at the hotel in grayville, which is only 10 miles away. I’m lucky, and only live about 30-35 miles away. haha!
Thanks Bob. I’m not use to videoing with that old camera. I haven’t used it in many years. I’m surprised it still worked. haha.
The layout is HUGE. I absolutely love the new addition Robby built.

I didn’t even test the camera out to see if it worked. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)I guess I’ll take it to your Dad’s tomorrow.
Watching the web cams, in particular the ones at Chesterton IN and Roanoke VA, it surprises me how many cars still have fallen flag lettering, given that many names are now over thirty years old and more. Very rare in the UK, where all traces of the past, on the mainlines anyway, have to be purged.
Oh yea. Many times just the reporting marks are changed to reflect the new owner, but many times the new owner just runs with the original reporting marks. If the car is making money, why spend money on the car for a new coat of paint?
