Dave Marconi has passed away

I have no other information to offer at this point. I had not heard from him in several days so I was going to drive down to his house today or call in a welfare check since he lives alone.
I decided to call in a welfare check and received a call back from the PD with the news.

He was a good/GREAT friend, modeler and mentor. I remember when he joined LSC and the avatar he used created some back channeling. However I gave him a chance and I’m thankful that I did.

I did not really need this as it will make close 12 deaths in less than 10yrs for me and the boy and four of them I was estate executor or administrator. I’m still finishing up my 57yr old sisters estate from last year.

It truly sucks but it’s a part of life! I ask that you please respect that I have no further information to offer and I will update here if or as I learn any more news.

there went one of the good ones.
may he rest in peace.

Just yesterday I was putting away Christmas cards from this year and saw his. He was one of the good ones. Damn.

One of the great ones. May he rest in peace.

This is completely unexpected. David was one in a million.

We were never close, but always talked at train shows and gatherings. When I moved to Rockhill and decided to convert the garage shed to a shop, he called and offered to drive up and help. Dave was my anonymous helper to re-build the front wall. He drove up, spent two nights and three days working with me. He wouldn’t take any money to help with his expenses. The only thing he would accept was a few lunches and a train ride. When I started doing the cieling he offered to come up again. I turned him down, but now wish I had accepted to have one more chance to see him.

I just went trough my shop work pictures from October hoping to find one of David. He was very good at avoiding the camera. This one with Ken and Rooster from October 2009 is a good one!

Rest in peace David. You will be missed.

And Rooster, I really hear you. This is one of the hardest parts of getting older; having to say goodbye to so many.

Another good friend I will miss from LSC. Rest In Peace my friend.

Another good guy gone, condolences to his Friends and family.

Also saddened by this news. I never got to know him, but I enjoyed reading his posts. May you rest in peace, David. I will miss your posts.

RIP, David Meashey

My condolances, I’m sad to hear this. RIP

Saddened to hear of David’s passing. Thoughts and prayers for him and his family.

Well,
Crud…

he was always there to help!

So very sad. I will always remember those evenings at ECLSTS at the motel bar with Dave.

Doc

Crap
No more dr Hollywood

His insomnia LSC presence allowed something of real time interaction for me in my Timezone. I’m going to miss that.

Wow, that is certainly sad news. David was always a big supporter of everything I was working on.

When I had the thread detailing my SD60f build, David converted the entire thing into an article, and had Bob post it under my name. He asked that I not tell anyone, but never said why.

RIP David.

I’m stunned, and so sad. Thank you Rooster for posting on this.

I was just up to see “Hollywood” in November, and we had a good talk about both of us going to NECLSTS, where he could sell his RR items which so far weren’t moving well. I’ve been meaning to call him to come up with plan B, now that the show is cancelled. Obviously that’s not happening.

David has long been a great encouragement in the hobby for me and many others. His humor, generosity and sense of honor are well known. I’ll really miss the guy.

I never met Dave but his passing makes me very sad. RIP David. You were one of the good ones!

From 2019.

The final bell has run for Mr. Marconi, three strikes on the bell, three times. Dave you are now off duty and you will join our brothers and sisters in the firefighting halls of heaven. Job well done.

Dave’s Seaboard “Hollywood Beach” lounge/sleeper continues to roll along now in private ownership in charter service, as seen here rolling into Cannea.

That sums the man up right there! ( He did tell me Shane but like you I was not to tell anyone either :joy:)

He was an excellent modeler and a huge influence on my modeling confidence and skill.
He always loved how I would take basic materials that most overlook and say " Buddy, you think so far outta the box sometimes it’s disturbing"

Looking at the pics I forgot he went to BD’s …He called me up about a 2 days before and said
" I’m heading up that way buddy, you wanna ride along" !

He also called about a week before and said
" Hey buddy, I’m going to Cliff’s place to see the modules before being shipped out, you wanna RIDE along ?
So I show up at his place and he throws all his stuff in MY truck and said “lets go”…!

Not the last trip/adventure I had with him but a good one. It was 2023 , I took him to the EBT however afterwards I told him were making a stop on the mountain to see where the CVRR ran down through the valley towards Shippensburg and Chambersburg.
He said " I ain’t hiking up no hill" …I said “Yes, you are” …When we got to the top he said…OK it was worth it!!

This is hitting me a bit harder than I thought and thanks for the pics/memories guys!
