Polar 50° low here this morning at the start of the Rose Parade. Yeah I know the drill, Cork, hole,
, Don’t get me started on traffic here, too dam many people, that’s the basic problem of all SoCal, from San Diego to Santa Barbara.

Just got back from my first trip to San Diego in years …
The traffic situation really varies depending on time of day and other factors. The biggest problem in San Diego is the extremely high cost of living. Housing is in short supply and has been way overpriced for decades. That’s why our son and his family moved back to Texas, it was just too expensive here.
I hear that! The Bay Area is the same way. I now have a son and daughter in Portland Oregon for much of the same reason. And the traffic in the Bay Area has gotten to be just as bad as LA, but as the other Greg said, the benefits still outweigh the negatives …
It was +5 when I got up, after a night of howling wind. I’m really uncomfortable with high winds and sub-freezing temps, with the prospect of a prolonged power outage. So far so good though, thank God.
It was -3 this morning and it got to a balmy 10 today. It’s 8:40 right now and it’s 5 outside…with no change in our forecast for a week.
I may need to go start a go fundme for my gas bill. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
I trim one of my hedges with a laser “level” to get it even, so I trim at night.
Went out about 7pm in short sleeves and sandals no socks.

Greg,
It really IS tough out here. Worked in the garage tonight machining some 1/8th engine parts and a fixture for assembling wood roof walks for my Baldwin electrics. Shirt sleeve weather tonight. My son called from our cabin in Wrightwood this evening and it was 65 degrees at 6500 foot. Even balmy weather in the mountains. It’s tough…
Cold air and northerly winds even keeps people in “Paradise” inside. Time to work on projects and catch up on reading and other warm endeavors.
Yes, its all relative.
Yeah, the cold blast in the most of the Midwest is now settling in the South. Friends just South of the Twin Cities reposted -20 without wind chill… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-frown.gif)
Preskit was 68 and sunny yesterday… Sigh… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Ric,
You are spot on. It’s as cold as it EVER gets here in northern Florida! Tomorrow will be even colder. They predict guesstimate 39ºF daytime and 28ºF nighttime. They also are saying 100% chance of precipitation. That could mean a few snow flurries! I’ve seen it before down here although it is quite rare. There is never accumulation so plowing on the HDRR is out (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cry.gif)It’s about as rare as a solar eclipse.
“How cold is it?”
Cold enough to freeze the balls off a pool table!
It got to a balmy 13f here yesterday at Chez McCown, but last night was -11f. Today is supposed to get to a high of 19, and tomorrow 27! Heat wave!

At least Thursday’s snow will not be wet and heavy…
You got that right Sean. If it has to be sofa king cold and snow too, at least it can be cleared with the leaf blower.
Been outside for a few 15 minute stints today trying to start a truck at work that’s been parked for 12 days. The new battery is flat line. Jump wouldn’t do it. Suggested the boss buy a charger since we don’t need the truck right away. Calling roadside would cost twice as much and it will be dead again in a day or two. I’m gonna get him a float charger next time I am at Harbor Freight. They are under $5 and work fantastic.
It is our usual sub freezing, here in beautiful Deer Park, the high today is supposed to be 28° F.

Steve,
I’m in Florida and at this hour we hit our high for the day…40ºF! (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)
Its times like this when I really appreciate my parka. I was outside in the 5 degree weather, with a wind chill of “loose body parts cold”, and I was toasty warm. I felt bad for the other smokers. Making us go outside in this weather, to have a smoke, should fall under the heading of “cruel and unusual punishment”. At least for the poor folks that were out there with me. They were freezing.

It’s a sinister plot to get you to stop smoking. Good cold weather gear is no excuse!
David, I agree with Jon.
But, I didn’t listen either. Over 30 years smoking, and nothing would keep me from having the cig. Even the worst weather, parka or no parka.
In 2010 though (8/13, actually), my wife went absolutely intercontinental-ballistic-ape-poo (now there’s a word picture) to make me agree to stop. And after that came the hardest thing I’ve ever done: cessation from that drug. No question.
So listen to the weather, or else God might send you something worse. He might forego the ape poo, and send you an intercontinental-ballistic-wife. You don’t want that, Brutha!!
Anyway, we need you and your Cheshire-cat-mustache-smile around for many more Drag n’ Brags.
Just sayin…
CJ
PS, you walked right into this one (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
David,
Feb 2012, I lit one up while the paramedics were preparing to take me in… In the horspital bed I squeezed the full pack, reassured that my best friends were ready at my call.
Advanced small cell cancer, not pneumonia after all. That full pack went into the trash and I never looked back. Oh I found a broken one one day and instead of tossing it, I set it where I could see it. Sure enough, I convinced me I could try it for old time’s sake… funny I didn’t inhale the puff.
The radiation burn hasn’t healed and I take Mucinex 24hrs a day until I cough color and then I lower the dose and cough more. Oh, I’m one of 18% that beat that cancer.
I wish for your sake, your coat would be not so cozy.
