Personally, I think you should be doing Gn15. And Hell No

I just meant that since they do the same track, you could use their experience with it. That’s all. You don’t have to use it because they do.
(Quote) “Now that really makes no nevermind in track choice. John B (I think I can say this) was simply saying this is what your friends use and it works for them. John is as much a rogue as anyone in our club and so I don’t think he meant it as if they are doing it then you have to do it. I am pretty confident this is where he was going with that.”
Exactly, Devon.

Okay, be that way… Just dump all those steam powered things and get back to modeling the GP9 from St Marie RR and those awesome long flats!

And my book and my house. . .sigh My legacy I fear will be a sting of unfinished projects. I actually did pull the Geep out and look at it.
Craig,
You are like that good friend that offers their buddy crack for the first time. You had to make me look at Gn15 again. No I am not doing it. BUT…I’ll be damned if On18 doesn’t have some possibilities on the On30 layout.
Hey man just trying to help out.
I take that GP off your hands. Oh wait, I don’t need another project.
Oh I am sold on this O18 idea. Shapeways has a cool little Shay built on a Bachmann chassis and some ore cars. You can get the trucks and wheel sets as well. I am going to expand the mining area to include a little run of O18.

No that Geep, even if it takes me until I die, is my baby. In HO I wanted to do STMA. Now that I am in G, I still want to do it. I love the look and the concept. Basically WAS the last true logging shortline. Owned by a lumber company and its sole purpose was to bring logs out of the woods to the mill and finished product to the Mainline for interchange. It’s a fractured shell of its former self now. So I really do want to make a tribute to it. Just need to get serious about at least working on it. They own three Geeps, and the Sw1200. And then the log cars. Not a huge task.

So, how do you really feel Devon?
My legacy I fear will be a sting of unfinished projects.
I know that will be my legacy. But at least I am having fun.
Not to get too far derailed, the STMA wasn’t the last logging railroad in the USA. That claim to fame goes to Simpson Railroad. They ran wet logs up to a dry sort yard, then dry logs back to the mill. Talk about cool equipment, the had one of the few dynamic brake equipped SW1200’s around. But I’ll give you the STMA as second.
So who’s stupid idea was it to switch to this scale? ;-). So over the weekend among some other projects I decided to play with an On30 skeleton log car. 22’ car ends up being 5.5" long. Thats small. Looks funny. But I am really pleased with the size when it comes to running indoor. I know I am going to like this a lot better. And I used I think it is Landral’s (Ty) way of making logs by using pink foam and making round logs then scoring bark lines and then painting, dry brushing, and then using weathering chalk to make some pretty cool logs for the one car that is about half done. I need to order some detail parts in order to finish it. Since this stuff will be up close and personal I am going to put some detail into them. But man it sure is tiny

I believe that would be Mr. Sinsley that made that fateful decision (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Soon Jim,
I need to place an order for some detail parts. I ordered a set of trucks from shapeways and they should be here soon. but I can always take a progress picture I guess. This is just giving me my train fix until the MIK
Devon,
I built an 0n3 speeder and trailer kit for John. Got it from Wiseman on Ebay.
For someone who has built 7/8 and 1:20.3 all I can say is good luck…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
Buy a kit and have fun. Some of the parts you can’t even see without magnifying glasses.

Here is the real reason you went to 7/8ths.
the humble beginnings
Ya know, Devon, if you put some wheels under that log skidder it would be much easier to move … but each to his own (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
Nice start. And did I read somewhere that you said that car was 5.5" long?
The wheels are on their way. Well the trucks anyway. I have the wheels already.
Yes it is 5.5 inches long which scales out to a 22’ car. This will be about the longest cars I will run.
You need binders on them chains.
