D&RGW Yellow

Has anyone come up with a formula for an exact copy of D&RGW San Juan Gold (Yellow)
as painted by Accucraft on their coaches?
If so, what paint brand and mix ratio?
Thanks,
jb

Not an exact answer but I had a similar question on the AMS Jackson Sharpe cars. I felt Top-Flite Cub Yellow over grey primer was a decent match until I purchased another coach and found it matched neither. The AMS painted cars were shades off each other. No one notices unless I point it out.

I know AMS is not Accucraft but as they are the same parent company I am wondering if similar paint issues occur in the Accucraft line.

Why not ask Accucraft? It can’t be a state secret.

Gents,

Without going into excruciating detail, different lots of paint, made to the same formula, by the same company can come out quite different. I was told by a major industrial paint manufacturer the difference is in the titanium used in the white base. I do not know if titanium is in ALL white paint, but I have presented a base explanation.

Yup, then the sun gets to it, starting the day it comes out of the shops.

It also assumes that the shops didn’t use something close to stretch the yellow they didn’t have enough of. The GN was notorious for doing that with the Glacier Park green.

And there are photos of the “dark green” (a close match for GN green, btw,) EBT coaches in baby blue and pale green from the sun.

Aging, sun tanning not withstanding, I just want to repaint an AMS Boxcar in AMS J&S Grande Gold
without going through a day of mixing, tinting, etc.
I thought maybe someone has done this already, and hopefully kept notes.

Try UP yellow, see if that’s close… :stuck_out_tongue:

If you go to an artist he’ll probably be able to make you exactly the mix you want. Take a swatch or sample with you.

Or, Home Depot.
