D&RGW caboose 0579

Hello historians! Was this caboose ever painted green, or did Accucraft catch a little LGB-repaintism?  jb

I’ve never seen the OUTSIDE of one of them painted green. The inside, however…

But its kinda nifty looking.

I’ve searched all over the web and can’t find any info on it being green.
It was used during the filming of “Rio Grande”. Maybe it was green then.
According to the group restoring it, (The friends of the Cumbres & Toltec) it might not even be a Rio Grande, but a Rio Grande Southern originally.
Let’s see what Kevin Strong, our resident historian has to say.

I just emailed Accuraft for a background on this particular color choice.

Received from Accucraft:

"John

The caboose was painted green in 1952 for a Hollywood Movie called Denver & Rio Grande. It is a great movie if you like train action. The caboose I guess stayed that color for a long time after the movie company was done so we had requests to do the green paint job on a short caboose. Amazingly that green caboose has sold well for us.

Best regards

Accucraft Company"

Now we know!

Well, there you have it. It shoulda been painted green.

And I just ordered the DVD movie to see for myself!
