D&RGW 40 ft. Reefer Kit

Am making progress on the acrylic car kits. Here are pics of the first car we are doing, the D&RGW 40 ft reefer.

They will be offered with some added roof braces (not shown) without door openings cut, for those wishing to clad it themselves. Due to the thickness of the acrylic I have (7/32), Bruce thought cutting the roof to fit inside the lower shell would be best. Builders can then finish roof it to their own liking. I am also considering cutting scribed siding on some. Machine time will be the deciding factor there. If its doable I’ll cut door openings on those and supply scribed doors to fit. Other cars to follow will be 30 foot shells for box, reefer, commissary and bunk cars and a long caboose. I’d be pleased to hear your comments. Andre`

Andre,

Looks like the beginnings of a very nice kit.

I’m not into mainline modeling since I took up largescale but one thing you guys really need is a nice 50’ express reefer as was used in steam era passenger trains. Trucks from Bachmann’s 1:22 passenger cars look like they would be pretty good sizewise for a 1:29 high speed reefer. DRGW, GN, REA, NP, UP, SP, NYC, etc., all used them.

Glue will probably hold up better in the long run than masking tape.

Forgot to say these are in 1:20.3. Dimensions are within .1 inch as calculated from posted drawing specs. All other cars will also be in 1:20.3 unless I get enough interest in another scale.

If it was duct(k) tape it would hold! Red Green would be proud!

Bunch o help, ain’t we.

John,

There was a fellow ‘G’ Scaler at the South East Garden Railroad Show this spring that had a ‘Gold Fish’ train. One rectangular car, one tank car (in clear acrylic) with a flat car with air pump in between. Really NEAT!! If I can locate the pics we took, I will post a couple.
