Nice. Too bad my Christmas request list has already been submitted.

I guess that I might have to buy a copy.

Great Video . . . . Thanks for posting.

Been under the weather for a couple of days, But spent part of the time editing some pics from the Chama Adventure.

D&RGW 315 awaiting her orders at the Chama Station.

D&RGW 315 & 463 Double-head over the Lobato Trestle in the Early morning.

NOTE: This was the first Doubleheader that the People of the C&T could ever remember running across the bridge. Normal operating procedure is to stop short of the bridge and separate the engines, and the lead engine run light over the bridge, and then the second engine runs over the bridge and the two engines re-couple. 315 & 463 are both lighter weight engines compared to the big K units, and the Ks have weight restrictions for doubling up on the bridge.

D&RGW 315 & 463 Double-head up the grade from Chama in the early morning.

And for you RGS fans, Goose #1 leaves the Chama yard for a day excursion.

Enjoy!

Thanks for posting pics while under the weather.

"
Thanks for the compliments guys. Actually I may have one sold for a commercial calendar for 2015 as 2014 went to press in July. I am thinking of self printing a few of the 315 @ Chama excursion for self and a few friends. They do make a good Christmas gift. We will see how much time I have on my hands to get it done. I am a little picky on my self when it comes to prints, and the ones in the past that I made, I made them so that the prints could be removed and framed on their own."

Any hope for a calendar with full resolution pics from what you have posted in this “Week…”?

I’ll add that as my first RR calendar for 2014.

AND the Chama adventure video mentioned, too.

I’ll have the video on my wish list where family members can find it!

Wow,
Didn’t realize Goose #1 was so small.
Good thing I scrapped my plan to put a shortened Bachmann coach body on mine

Happened across this 315 video on Youtube. Brings back memories of my chase of the Durango train in the summer of 2000.

Ya all got me ITCHING . . . . to get back to narrow gauge country ! I plan to be in Chama in late April and to be in Silverton for the first train of the season in early May. !!

Got some extra work done from the Chama Steam fall special.

I made up a crew picture for the crew, and a few others.

Hooray… It looks like we will be running a “special charter” with 315 at the lead on May 17-19 2014.

Chama Steam Work Extra 315

May 17-19 2014 .

This excursion will feature pile driver OB and some MOW activities .

We’ll depart Antonito in the morning on Saturday, May 17, stopping along the way for photo ops and runbys, , then tie up at Osier for a fine dinner, night photo shoot, and spend the night at Osier.

Sunday, May 18, we’ll arise early to catch the dawn light, hold as many runbys as possible, then return to Osier for dinner, another night shoot, and again spend the night at Osier.

Monday, May 19, we’ll head back to Antonito, stopping for demonstrations of pile driver OB along the way. Please note that due to the age of the pile driver, we can’t guarantee what will happen!

Breakfast, lunch and dinner provided while we are out on the line.

Now it the time to plan to come to Colorado for a visit and a few days of real narrow gage steam.

Nice pic, looks like it would make a great poster.

Dave, is there a web site for the photo special with prices, registration, etc? While I’m not sure about that whole “arise early” thing, that sounds like the kick in the pants I need to get myself down there for a few days.

Later,

K

If the 315 work extra makes a go of it. Then the May 17-19 dates will be up in the Rockies, with a MOW consist, featuring the pile driver. The plan is to try and get it working ( actually driving piles ) and I would be putting together a night shoot while it’s working (Note: at this time it can not be conformed as to the actual schedule).

The next running of 315 is could be on opening day 2014, as a double header from Antonito to Chama with 463. Again this is not yet locked in stone. Stay tuned.

Keep checking here and as I get more details I’ll let ya’all know.

All I can say is WOW WOW WOW, My wife and I had planned our vacation last year to go ride the Durango and Silverton and the Cumbres and Toltec that week and weekend, in hopes of being able to see the Geese as well as 315, but after flying in to Durango from Houston, we found out we had no Rent a car as hertz screwed up my reservations and none of the other rent-a-car places had anything other than a Surburban that they wanted to rent it to me for $1200.00 for the week. Heck my whole vacation didn’t cost me that much for both train trips , the air fair and hotels combined, and that was even going to the most expensive fares for both train trips. So all I was able to do was ride the Durango & Silverton and visit the Museum and ended up having to cut my vacation short by 5 days and came back to Houston. I was lucky enough to get a refund on the Cumbres & Toltec trip, but ended up costing my $450.00 to fly back to Houston on an earlier flight. Thanks to Hertz, a vacation of the lifetime went into the toilet. Maybe this year I will make it to Chama for the trip with the wife, if Uncle Sam is good to me with a nice tax refund.

Awesome Photos Dave. I might use one as a screen saver.

Back on track.

I’ll re use this forum to keep you all updated on 315s activity. As of now the May excursion is a go. See the above links if you want to be a part of it. I’ll be hosting the night shoots.

The 315 crew has a scheduled work week for the week of May 5th. In Antonito where the 315 has wintered over. We will be doing prep work, and giving the ole girl her first “30 day inspection” in more then 50 years. The last years that 315 had been run, she never ran into the “30 day” run time within the annual inspection calendar year. We have ran her this year into the 30 day inspection period, so an FRA required inspection needs to be preformed.

If you’r in the area please stop by and give a howdy, and I’ll give ya the nickel tour ( may even give ya something to help with). We’ll start on Monday, and work thru the week, until every thing is done. We’ll head home when done, so check before making a long drive on the following Saturday afternoon.

Dave, . . . . thanks for the update. All interesting and wonderful. When I can make a trip across country I’ll try to schedule to be in the area and do a volunteer “land a hand for grunt work” for a few days. I would be FUN. Keep us update.

Narrow Gauge Lover . . .

Just a reminder. I’ll continue on this thread for next week as we prep 315 for this seasons excursions. I’ll try to post a daily log of what we are doing with pics along the way.

If anyone’s in Antonito next week (M,T,W,T) please stop by and look me up.

Check this out! I just found this tonight.

Way cool. Last September for the fall photo special in Chama, 315 and 463 were working the photo special. In the afternoon we were heading from Osier to Antonito, and making photo run bys. Guess what happened? New photo images for Google Earth of the Osier area. Yes, D&RGW 315 is now a part of Google earth!

Open Google Earth, Copy and paste this set of numbers into the search box and hit search.

37º00’13.60” N 106º19’48.24” W

For some reason it takes you to the closest road (Rd 103). But look at the rails to the top right and there is 315. Now is that cool or what?

Follow the track to the right and you will come to the photo train (D&RGW 463) and at the rear of the train near the last caboose you can, maybe make out me setting up a photo line to shoot 315 in a run by.

Here is the shot from that setup.

Nothing is safe from the prying eyes of Google, is it?

Neat Dave!

Orwell was close. Google IS Big Brother!

Wow, what are the odds?! Pretty cool.

And if you don’t have Earth installed, just go to Google Maps, click on Satellite and paste in the coordinates. Arrow points right at the train!

I can definitely see the photo line! Not sure which one is you though Dave :]

A little bit North of 315 is a reverse loop I didn’t know existed on the C&TS.
