CVSRy Plow Extra cleas up after Blizzard Adrieane

Nice Jon. The Kttatinny crew tried to plow yesterdays snow but once again ran into icy tracks. Could not get traction.

Good plowing!

Another nice documentary Jon. Thanks

Soooo thats what snow looks like…
Great pics
Hope U get the plow back on the tracks.
Thanks Jon.

The Plow crew had the goal of reaching Northville today to open the Wye tail there and the East leg back to Deep Cut. If successful, that would open the entire line for the first time since before the blizzard. Before any attempt could be made on Northville, heavy equipment needed to be called in to clear the mountainous drift covering the track. Once the plow train reached the Northville track, they had little to do except crunch the ice off the rail-heads. The EOT at Nothvile was reached just about 3:30 PM…

In this view those are not snow piles. but the remnants of a single drift from the blizzard…

Once the goal of Northville was achieved, the train returned to Honey Grove on the indoor division to turn on the balloon track. Here the Plow Extra is seen shoving uphill just past West Escape`…

The turned train arrives at Nothville ready to tackle the snow on the East Leg…

Unfortunately Mother Nature had other ideas. Buried under the snow was a solid block of ice firmly attached to the rails…

A few years ago I would have used an ice chopper to deal with this problem. One winter I did that and found lots of track damage the next spring. So for now, the East Leg remains closed. I could use heat from a propane torch to try and melt through, but I don’t want tie damage either.

Jon you’ll need to add one of these to your roster

 There’s one similar owned by Metro North that usually lives in Poughkeepsie, NY. Cool machine.

Nice jon. I had my line open yesterday but then winds came in and blew snow all over the tracks. I forgot to close my tunnel so now I have the tunnel clogged with snow.
I did the chop the ice from the track thing and caused some rail damage. Wont do that again. LOL

I think the railroad will officially close for the season after this one… West Escape`

Indian Hill - the Big Indian is buried in the foreground and the bridge is that straight line on the right…

I’d love to go camping or boating about now, but that looks unlikely…

It’s nice and warm inside looking out at the snow

Nice pics Jon,looks like you got hit with some snow. Now all joking aside, show some pics of the RR

Oh, that brings back memories of last year’s big storms. I don’t miss it a bit. We didn’t even get that much in 1:20 scale.

Guess the only 'open lines' around now are going to be on Coast to Coast AM if you wanna talk UFOs in the middle of the night.

Neat “photojournalism” story. And sure do like N&W SD45s.

Pretty cool that BT&D made it out there in time to get snowed on :)
