Large Scale Central

CVRR Utility #17

Ok I’m not a steam guy but as noted in the past I’m totally into local history. I have several books on the real Cumberland Valley RR which the main still runs behind my house now owned by N.S. (as noted in the past). I spotted this unit in one of my books several years ago and found it quite interesting, flat out ugly and down right badass… It kinda looks like the Munster Mobile on rail’s …did I say it was ugly and has a bellcrank, … it would have pulled the CVRR combination car over the Susquehanna River too Harrisburg,PA in it’s “heyday”. There is ZERO info on this unit other than it had 42" drivers and it’s weight. It was built by Seth Wilmarth (famous for the Pioneer #13 at the B&O Museum currently) …with that said I want this unit in G scale! This is a scanned picture from a book I own

A recent link was posted on the CVRR combination car thread that shows more about the CVRR I like pictures

That is pretty cool looking.
Static or operational model ?
Or is that a dumb question
Ralph

Jeez Ralph! You know the Rooster. He could never sit still, so his models could never do that either.

Its about time Rooster. I was starting to give up on you. Your my hero.

Looking at the materials looks like your making some drug paraphernalia.

Ah, we’ll make a steam guy outa you yet…more fun then those powered boxcars you dig up…

Now that is really cool! I love funky old engines like that. I’m adding it to my long list of “someday” projects.

Hi David,

Your loco is very like the a loco on the Madera sugar co - called Betsy - there is a model of it made by Moloco as well. It is not the same, the drive from the cylinders to the wheels is different.

In addition there is some info of it on the following link

http://www.gearedsteam.com/other/other_opqr.htm with a side view drawing that may help you for general ideas.

Yours Peter

Cool looking pipe man. Far out rooster.

Arrest me!

I’m having Déjà vu. The dates on these posts are all today, but I swear I’ve seen all this before. In any case, good to see your efforts and talent going toward something worth running.

Pink feathers or plain?

I watched a television special some time ago, where some divers found two “upgrade” versions of the Pioneer on the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean about three miles off the coast of northern New Jersey. They decided that these locomotives were probably on the deck of a ship taking them for delivery to the Cumberland Valley Railroad when that ship got caught in a bad storm. The thought was that the locomotives were either pitched off the deck by the storm or cut loose by the crew to keep the ship from sinking. Anyway, the photos they got of these locomotives indicates that they were the 2-2-2 type, but were a beefier version of the Pioneer.

Not your project engine, Rooster, but most likely from the same era and builder.

Yours,
David Meashey

Dave,
I saw most of that show myself(caught it channel surfing shortly after it started) and have never seen it again! I believe it was on the History Channel? However I thought they brought up the bell and figured it off of that…I also thought it was in the Chesapeake Bay…however that was like 2yrs ago…if you can rack your brain some more perhaps you can remember what channel you saw it on and what it was called??..I would love to see it again…Thanks for reminding me about that …now it’s gonna drive me nuts!

Plain with red velvet inner lining and could you hook a paperclip to the chain?

The show was “Deep Sea Detectives”, it was pretty neat.

Here is a .pdf about the wrecks…
